What is it that makes that chatter or flutter is it an external wastegate?
-
Turbo chatter is the turbo stalling spinning one way to the other very quickly if I remember correctly!
Vaccum is the cause to this I believe or if you dont any sort of dump valve
-
So when your hear these cars just means they don't have a dump valve don't seem safe
-
if what i understand is right, you cant have external waste gates any more, well not new cars, something to do with the fact your putting exhaust gas (emissions) into the atmosphere unregulated?
chatter on the bmw twin turbo petrols is the internal waste gates being loose, they need adjusting

wrong there is no way the tubo spins one way to the other very quickly do you know how many rpm's a turbo does i guess not. it is the noise of the air being pushed back against the turbo blades but in no way is stoping the turbo spinning or reversing this is caused by running no dump valve.
-
My daily chatters very loud i love it  all i did was remove the turbo you cant really do this on vag engines as they run recirc turbos
-
aye its just air being pushed back over the turbo veins the wrong way. i run without a dumpvalve on my impreza - car is actually a bit snappier changing between the gears without the dumpvalve
-
It's fine for Garrett or bigger turbos but not for the K series turbos really. I used to love the sound of my Escort, just had a cone filter directly on the side of the turbo inlet and no DV lol

Would have loved to see that!
Is turbo chatter the same as 'turbo bark'. On my bros DERV he has a miltek decat DP, 2.5" and when changing gear and lifting off it makes some sort of owl noise...Is this the sound you guys get to? :undecided:
-
thats chatter yer mate,, my turbo just has a airfilter straight on end of it.. k series turbos can chatter but no point
-
It used to scare people in town
It sounded very similar to this (bear in mine the footage is in car so is quieter lol)

Love it

Is chatter not a bad idea (will it not end up breaking something)
-
They never came with a DV as standard
-
Chatter is not a bad idea there are many myths that running without a DV is a bad idea.. i no on my car there was a guy that run back to back tests iirc running the same turbo with and without a DV and the turbo didnt wear out any quicker without one.. Only problem is on some newer cars such as VAG ones there are many sensors that dont like you running without one.. all jap cars are fine without and cars such as RS turbos etc as the management on them is much much simpler
