I pay £198 for my wife on the GT TDI through Direct Line. Comparing insurance prices is a bit like chalk and cheese tho', as they will differ greatly from area to area.

Postcode makes a big difference due to whiplash claims that are happening across the UK , Liverpool & Oldam being the worst culprits in the country!!

This is not my experience of comparison websites, specifically Compare the Market, i've been insured with Direct line and Churchill in the past but am now with Aviva as they couldn't get close to the quote i got from Aviva on the comparison website, i then went direct to them and it was £50 cheaper still! Just because you get quoted on a comparison site doesn't mean you can't go direct, i will be going with Admiral when Aviva can't compete as they always come back with a good quote.

My quote's approx £750...2 years NCB and I'm 24, new ED35, which isn't as bad as it could be!

Depends where you live? My cheapest quote on the comparison sites was 690 then 900 , then a I got one down to 379 through Direct Line who are not on the Price comparisons sites thank F*ck  I do have 11yrs no claims and thats protected.

Don't mean this to sound rude but it's pretty pointless asking us all what we pay for our insurance, far too many variables.

You really need to put some time aside and do your homework getting online quotes and ringing around. As an example I am insured with Tesco with no other insurer getting close, but many friends and family getting shocking quotes from them.

It's a strange game insurance, good luck

Maybe its just me but I've never seen the point in Protected no claims as you have to declare an accident / claim in the last 3 or 5 years to new companies.  The only way it protects you is if you stay with the same company who will no doubt put the price up anyway?

To the OP, where you stay is definitely a big factor in price. I'm just over £200 for the 2.0 GT and the price comparison sites were given me £234 for the GTI and £230 for the R (cheaper for some reason)

My daughter who passed her test at 17 and bought a Clio only cost her £600 and something for her own insurance.

I am 29 and have always found Aviva cheapest when I had my type-r and now with my GTI. You pay a deposit up front then 9 more payments so a couple of months payment free ( if you pay monthly ) which is nice. I pay about 450 for the year with protected no claims.

Damn being from Essex T_T my current Type S i'm paying £1K, being 23 and 1 years NCB.

Just run the figures through Compare The Market and pleasantly surprised, best quote for my wife and I is £326 FC, good benchmark for when our Tesco renewal comes through.

Just for reference can anyone recommend one of the mainstream insurers who won't pull my pants down with a remap, exhaust, intake and basic suspension and brake mod, I am thinking someone like Sky may offer best value?

Thanks

Yeah when I rang them re the map they just wanted to know the percentage power increase and that was it. They also said that other mods are insured and all I need to do is ring them.

.........x2. Protected no claims waste of time. You make a claim & even if you have protected you'r no claims bonus the price goes up.Save you'r money.
