Title: anyone know cosworths
Post by: GTIcheeseman on 02 June 2012, 15:44
I have found a cosworth engine, the story behind it is it was in a university brand new then went to a musseum. It was picked up by my friends uncle, it's been started and stuff but all we know is that it's 24v v6 with a cosworth Scorpio bottom, I have some numbers which I have coscast 1101bd , mb0003 , v80061/5 . Any help on this would be nice I am gonna ring cosworth during the week to see if they can help as well

You could ask on this site, not strictly an RS site but thats not an RS engine !

RSOC is very clicky so I doubt you'd get an answer, especially being a n00b.

PF is your best bet :afro:

Could be a testbed/development motor, the induction system doesn't look 'production' ready.
Title: Re: anyone know cosworths
Post by: GTIcheeseman on 03 June 2012, 09:52
Yeah someone on passionforford said it could be a pre production and maybe a collector's thing. That's before I got band from there

I would imagine the actual block/heads etc are probably the same as a production spec motor with the induction and plastic protection being non standard, not sure what interest there would be in it as the scorpio motor wasn't really special compared to the likes of the DFV.

Could be worth firing off an e-mail to cosworth themselves as i would imagine they keep records of motors they've worked on.

Well someone said it maybe an engine a collector would want. So I said would that make it worth alot. Few hours later I got a message from a moderator saying your engine thread has been deleted if you wish to sell then you have to pay for gold membership . So I messaged back saying I'm not selling blah blah . He said go somewhere else to do your investigation and then I got band

I found the ford (Sierra) community to be quite rude and got loads of abuse when trying to sell on a rare XR4i
Sold it to an Irishman who rallied it which really pissed em off, should have been nicer to me then

2.5 v6 24v 226bhp at 7500rpm max rpm is 8000 special forged crank , twin throttles with individual webber ecus

but it was never made :)

Thing is, is this engine worth using? It may be nice and powerful but spares for it may be extremely hard to come by and very expensive, even simple things like gaskets.
Title: Re: anyone know cosworths
Post by: Gavv8 on 20 June 2012, 09:50
Depends how far down the line it was as a development engine, heads/block and most of the internals could be stock (apart from the crank) and the induction is 'test', the only worthwhile application i can think of would be grasstrack or maybe hillclimb.
