ok today i decided to do to my gti what i did to my black one.
removed and blanked and the rear wiper and spoiler.
much cleaner look and i like it better on a lowered car.
what do ya think?

IMHO,
needs the spoiler or a window without the holes bunged up & for the dewiper to look right needs the pressing cut out & smoothed as now it looks like somethings missing with them bungs sat in there...
just my 2p worth but its your car dude!!

i like it. not a fan of the GTi spoiler gives it a more smooth look.
iv got that rubber bung thing in my wiper but im thinking of going the whole 10 yards and doing it the proper way.

the car is not a finnished project and i dont mind the 3 tiny little grommets at the top of the window. not really that noticable.
i aint gona spend silly money cutting and smoothing the boot then having it resprayed. that is good enough for me. when i have wider wheels and a decent stance i think it looks better with the smooth back.
it will do me for now. maybe sometime i will buy a spare boot and do all that to it.
looked good on my other mk3. although it was black so the bung kinda fitted in more :grin:

From what I have read a wiper bung is a bad idea as it is an easy way to break into the car :undecided:

mine is locked in a garage when not is use and has a clifford alarm with a proximety sensor so good luck to anybody that touches my car for more than a few second :grin:
everytime i open my garage door to get it out my car has ago at me with a loud buzz sound.

yeah its the stance and all the other bits aswell. as said its the start of a new project and once all the other bits start to take shape on it it will work well. :cool:

Just done the boot lid to mine while I wait to smooth it properly, looks good IMO . I am stuck with my spoiler tho as I stuck it on with tiger seal when I first brought the car....kinda regretted it since!

Mine had black glue Golding it on aswell as the bolts. Just took abit of going over carefully with a Stanley blade and a hard rub with a microfiber cloth and it all came off. Plus a little bit of thinners on a cloth and job done.

De wipered yes bit personally I think it needs the spoiler. But if you're happy then thats all thay matters.

I prefer mine with spoiler and wiper although i would like to colour code the spoiler.

i just like the look of a lowered car with nice wheels and stance that is smoother at the back with no rabber spoiler. the car has to have the wheels and the stance for it to work tho. mine does not at the moment but it will so its just getting it ready early for it :grin:

I did this a while ago after seeing your black one,after a month decided it looked better with spoiler so it went back on.

it make all the diferance mate. smooth back on lowered golf with deep wide wheel looks sexy

i think the problem is that the gtis look odd with plastic arches and sills but no spoilers. note all the cars you posted are fully colour coded

Yep. No spoilers. And no sink plugs.
If you are going to do it then do it right... Fill the hole and respray.

thing is all those in the pics you posted have been done correctly, welded up hole and Non GTI glass
i think the bungs look more un smooth than having the spoiler and wiper on :grin:

they brake up the flow of the back end

mine is colour coded type spoiler looks like part of car
did consider having my wiper welded up but i didn't want no filler on my car as at some point it always sinks and then looks bab

fair play and that is you prerogative. but i just like the non spoiler look. i like the shape of the car more without it. as lets face it on a mk3 gti 8v there is no need for a spoiler. it does not serve a purpose so bye bye :grin:

this is mine i just got a Golf 1.4 so never had spoiler but im not a fan of the spoiler. i like the rout you are going to take i too need to smooth mine better how is this done tho? i have some P38 filler would that do it??

I'll up load a pic of my vr in couple of days. Smoothed wiper and vw badge and no spoiler. It needs a vw badge I think but it does look nice. Been like it since the 90's and hasn't sunk or anything. Must be down the the bodyshop

what do you mean by smooth it more? if your on about the wiper hole then no p38 wont do you will need to weld, if you on about smooth the lones on the bumper then you could use p38 but plastic filler would be better

lones on bumper? what is this you talk off, but yes was talking the wiper blade hole where i'v put the rubber bung.

yh the wiper hole will need flatting and welding, just filling will not work. if you dont want the weld it you could hammer the raised bit flat, then get a piece of metal thats bigger then the hole, then bond that bit of metal behind the hole then fill over that. this way would work but is only a bodge, welding FTW

ah i like your bodge job idea, but me and hammers don't go well i'm best of leaving it as it is hahaha.

The only real way to sort it is to cut the section out, then weld a flat plate in with a skim of filler.

This is how i did mine, turned out pritty well imo. Have since stuck spoiler back on however
