Hi,
Just purchased a 2009 VW Golf 2.0 TDI 3 door in white. It currently has 16" alloys however want to upgrade to the 18" GTI ones. I have read that there are two types, monza and monza shadows, can anyone provide pictures of both so I can decide what i would prefer. Also, in terms of fitment... would they fit my golf?? I have seen alot on ebay but i dont think they are genuine.
Regards,
Andy

Monzas are 17" and are silver Monza shadows are 18" with a polished face with black inserts, i'd say the majority of mk6 owners go for the shadow upgrade, have a look in here mate:

I personally would go for just Monza's on a standard white car but thats just my 2p.
Welcome btw
-
Go for 18" and only buy genuine ones. I'm sure there are folks on here that could tell you what to look for.
-
Genuine ones will fit your golf, mk5 and 6 golfs have a 5 x 112 stud pattern on them where as the mk4 is 5 x 100.
Please don't buy reps from eBay you would regret it. Plenty of second hand ones on there anyways. Some are very cheap as they a scratched and curbed the hell out of, I would buy them and get them refurbished to a style I like.
-
Unless you have sports suspension, 18" wheels will visually exagerate the ride height and wheel arch gap.
-
I would got from some genuine 17" monza's and get them powder coated in satin black.
This wouldn't mess with the cars susspension set up and you would stand out from the crowd

You still selling yours Martin? Or have you sold them?
-
Go for the Monza Shadows, there's been a few gen sets on the Bay recently but there not cheap...I got mine thro a forum member for £650 brand new then spent another £480 getting good rubber on them...
-
thanks for the help think i will go with 18" shadow monzas but in terms of where i will purchase them I am undecided! garage quoted £400 each!

Yes Jim, sold them to mk5 chap off the forum who lived fairly local
So all I have is one measly set of monza shadows which are on the car.
Shall stay this way until I sell her now.

All seem in excellent condition bar a tiny mark on one of them, personally tho for those interested I wud ask the seller to post inner wheel pics of the part number and stamps for clarification...
-
I wouldn't go near a seller like this one.

Yeah why not. Nothing like playing a practical joke on someone and for under £500 it's a bargain

There's a mint set available from a forum member here for £268 per wheel

Nearly £1100 quid?
I've seen ones of average to good condition, with the standard 'white worm' selling for between £400-600. You can then spend £250 on getting them refurbed to an 'as new' condition and you'll have spent anywhere between £700 and £900.

Didn't want to start another topic but I stumbled across these while on the Bay...GLENDALES (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-19-VW-GOLF-GTI-EDITION-35-GLENDALE-ALLOY-WHEELS-MK5-MK6-VOLKSWAGON-/221133257501?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&hash=item337c91bb1d#ht_5643wt_1026) ? Over the seller tho, going on his feedback...and the fact that he doesn't mention collection in the ad...
So if your interested BE CAREFUL!!!!

So my wife has manage to kerb the n/s front alloy, not too bad as she scuffed it parking rather than clocked a kerb but a trip to the refurbishers is required.
I am going to use Pristine in Milton Keynes as they are local so I will do before and after pics, fingers crossed they do a good job :undecided:

They have quoted me £84 which sounds very reasonable to me having described the wheel over he phone, expecting it to be more when I drop wheel off, we'll see and I will post up.
Irony of it was wife had gone to charity shop with some clothes, so trying to do something good has cost us the best part of £100

These things happen, if the £84 inc vat then that's the same as I got charged from Lepsons, worked out £70 + vat...
