Hi
Ive just cured 1 problem with my 8v and found another this evening while out on a run.
I had my battery dis-connected today so when i re-connected it the MFA had reset. So i decided to see what kind of MPG reading i was getting. I was quite happy to see that over a 30 mile journey ( mainly motorway ) my car reached 44.9 MPG... I thought this would probably be a little optimistic but was still happy with what i saw.
Once i arrived at my destination i turned off the car and left it for around 45 mins. I got back in the car started it up and the reading was still the same... But after only a few miles i had noticed the MPG dropping rapidly, I noticed that it dropped at a rate of 0.1 MPG to every 0.1 of a mile or more.
When i finally parked up it was reading under 19 MPG and still dropping... Surely something is wrong here, has anybody got any advice??

Yeah - Don't rely on a 20+ year old system that was never that accurate when new...
Fill it up and do an average when you refill it....
-
Lol.. I wasnt thinking of the accuracy more of why its going up and then down??
Thanks anyway matey

You using setting 1 or 2 on the stalk?

You using setting 1 or 2 on the stalk?
Im not sure what you mean? i just click it to the mpg setting...
-
On the stalk there is a switch...
Position 1 is for instant reading's or from when the car was last started.
Position 2 is the average since been reset by either disc the battery or using the reset button...
-
How do i switch between the 2 of them?
Would this explain it dropping right down though?
-
Slide the switch on the stalk.....
Someone having a Malteaser Moment....

On the stalk it should look like 0 1 2 0 by pushing and holding to the left zero, this resets the journey readings. By pushing and holding the zero to the right, resets the total since last reset.

Thanks guys, ive sussed it out now.. Avg MPG seems to be holding out at around 35..
Must of just been one of those days

I'm a bit curious from your other topic where we were discussing how to get your MFA MPG counter running again. Was it a vacuum leak somewhere in the end? Or was it something else? Cheers

me?? I didnt have any leaks on my vacuum pipe to the MFA..

Try disconnecting the Battery and check the earth wires... if its not a Vac leak...

Ah, sorry bigdirtyturbo, mixed you up with somebody elses problem with the MFA from last week. Should have double checked first :)
