Title: Why

Why is insurance so bloody high????????????????

I'm trying to get insurance for my 19 year old brother who got his full UK driving licence two months ago. No matter which car I check for insurance, cheapest quote I got is around £8K third party only

cause hes a new driver, and every fooker in this country sticks a whiplash claim in, the £1k+ compo has to come from somewere.

forget anything new and powerful. 1 letre micra or something for a year till he has a years experience and a years ncb, then possibly might be able to get a reasonable quote on a 1.4 or something.

Whiplash claims, accidents caused by sh!t foreign drivers (how they ever got a licence is beyond reasonable grasp) and the payouts from the older crowd who cause accidents. Despite what people think, from what I've seen, between the youngens and the 'experienced', it's the older crowd who are the worst, and possess a combination of impatience, risk taking and incompetence.

If your only looking at 3rd Party only, try F+T and fully Comp. Most of the time 3rd Party only is more expensive with a new driver as they expect them to not take care of the car and generally not really give a toss.

Insurance is just savage. For my self, after next years annual renewal I will have paid more than the car is worth on insurance...I know for new drivers that will probably be in their first year!

The whole 'claim' culture that the world has gotten it self into is a f**king joke. The insurance companies greed, and our own, have bought it upon our selves. Always telling your mate to stick in a claim for whiplash for a 10mph collision and then if it isn't your mate it will be insurance companies telling you to turn down £xxxx as it is too low and they think you can get more!

Know we ALL have to pay for it...

The last one I looked at is 2001 Suzuki Ignis, I got 11 years NCB and added him as second driver and quotation was £8126 to be exact  :lipsrsealed:

thats why, they class it as a fronted policy.

Get him out on his own policy ASAP

Add in a OLD, clean record driver, brings it down a LOT

and no point in running him as a named driver as he wont get on the NCB ladder .

My licence is clean and shinny like new  guess I'm not old enough right now

I have changed the policy other way around, made him main driver and added my father as secondary driver and the cheapest quote is £4635 - third party fire & theft  :undecided:

its absolutely joke, car is Nissan Micra 998 CC and the price we paid for it is £450

What is the craic with all the different variations to be able to bring the price down. It's just dumb. It's nearly as bad as the power suppliers variations for gas/elec and online billing, paid monthly on a supersaver with the first x amount of units at higher price.

This country needs to regulate these barstewards better and enforce simple clear policies for people. They throw that many options you could take a week "finding" the best deal. The amount of hidden things you may not need on the policy (breakdown/legal assist/courtesy car) are all things that add to your price.

We live in a just in case society  :lipsrsealed:

My first years insurance when I was 17 was 3000 which about the cheapest you can get it for your first year nowadays and that was on a 1.3 Toyota starlet, puttin older males on doesn't make much differnece try and add women I had and still do have my mum and my brothers fiancée on my polish and it makes it a goo £400+ cheaper

Insurance also really depends on what you're after. I'm 23 with 2 years no claims. Insured with Sky Insurance and covers all my mods like for like (unlike places like Admiral who will only replace mods with manufacturer spec).

I pay just over £1K mind.

Definitely try other comparison sites, because there can and WILL be huge differences in price. To get my learner wife on my current policy is impossible (she is 29), any other way bumps it up significantly - but it has to be done.

Go direct with reputable companies, my wife's lupo is her first car, she is 26, no Ncb, engine conversion (doubled horsepower) updated brakes, coilovers alloys and agreed insurance value, £670 a year I'm on as a named driver an I added £26 to the policy with my 4 years Ncb, go figure her insurance is £32 cheaper than mine! It makes no sense at all, trying to get my 17 year old brother a quote less than £1700 on a 1300 mk2  at the moment but go direct to companies like sky, HIc, admiral and such always bestest!! Good luck, that seems to be working for us anyhow

With my insurance my sister brings it down for some reason. I put my mum and dad on there and they have clean licences plenty of years experince etc and they bring it down a couple of hundred, but when I put my 24 year old sister who has only had a licence 2 years longer than me brings it down by a grand. Strange :-\
