Hey guys,
Got her booked in for it's 2nd service. They said that the car was due an air con service (£70). Basically a re-gas. I've only done 13k, surely they don't need a re-gas every 2 years like they said?
Have you guys been told the same?

Mina had its second service a month ago and the dealer also did an air con service and recharge.
The service will clear out the debris that collects, replace the filter plus there is always a small leakage with aircon systems.
The aircon is working much better now, but its was included in my service plan, so didn't have to pay anything extra.
-
My second service included a change of pollen filter.
Although they tried to charge extra for it, they relented when I said I could get it done elsewhere cheaper so price matched instead!
-
Cheers for the replies. Maybe i'll just get it done then.
-
Cost me £350 for the second service including Air Con. Never changed the Air Filter though at nearly 40k on the clock, so bought one myself and changed it. Was black and horrid looking.

The filter should be black as it is a charcoal filter, if the filter you bought was white then that is the wrong one for the Electronic Climate Control.

Mines had it's second service and there was no mention of a re gas although i did take out the service pack! Coincidence..............

They did ask me if i was on a service pack before mentioning that it needs a re-gas every 2 yrs.

I think he was on about his Air Filter.

My GTI just had it's 2 year service...no work done on the Air Con.
I thought it was a de-oderise at 4 years, and re-gas when required, on these?
I've never heard of 2 yearly re-gassing.
-
Make sure that they change your air filter at your second 10000 mile service. My dealership didn't and only changed it when i checked the filter a few weeks later. I normally go to one branch of this particular dealer and receive excellent service but on this occasion i used another site.
I should've known better, the "pollen filter" box wasn't ticked when i picked the car up, i brought it to the attention of the service adviser, who disappeared and returned a few moments later and had ticked the box.
Chancers!!!! I'm still not sure whether i should contact VW UK about that.

My second service was carried out Monday (Gtd at 19.6k mls....ish)
No mention of air-con, but oil, air and pollen filter changed.... Many things 'visually' checked (each tyre's depth was measured!) the re-call for the fuel injector pipes was carried out and the car was cleaned and valeted.
The only 'dumb' thing was, the mileage they stated on the re-call certificate and maintenance schedule was the first service mileage.i.e. 10.4k mls! Although service book is correct.
Took out the service plan when I bought the car a year ago so this service was easy on the wallet i.e. zilch

I was talking about the Air Filter in the engine bay, I am pretty sure I got the right one as it was identical to the original part number e.t.c. According to the service book air filter is 60000 miles. doh. Was informed the Cambelt is 4 years or 120K miles and brake fluid needs doing in 3rd year.
-
If they don't do what is listed in the service book under service scope and additional work then complain,
It's not rocket science its all listed what their ment to do in your service book. simples..

Why do you need a Air Con regas @ 2 years? How many days a year do you use it? I lived on an Island where it never got below 23 c. Nobody serviced their Air Con till it blew hot????

Air con gas is naturally 'leaked' through all or some of the rubber seals/gaskets of the system, I've read that it's possible to lose 20% in a year!
It's always a good idea to run the air con for a short period every week/month just to keep the seals etc lubricated and to help stop them from drying out and cracking, thereby losing more gas!

the re-call for the fuel injector pipes was carried out and the car was cleaned and valeted.
So did you have a letter of VW saying your injector pipes need changing or did the dealer change them without asking?
These faulty injector pipes are an old problem when it was first talked about there was a VW site where you enter you VIN number and it told you if you vehicle is effected, mine wasn't.
I had my second service back in January as part of the service plan. They changed oil & filter and pollen filter. They advised the AC needs servicing every 2 years and it would cost £70. I said no thanks we have 2 aircon machines at work so I will do it myself.
-
No recalls for me, it stated no recalls on the paperwork.

Don't know if they changed the injector pipes or just clipped on the rubber dampers to stop the harmonic vibration? I really can't be ar$ed to pop the engine cover off to check to be honest
I assume you know what you're doing re the re-gassing?? Things can go quite wrong if you don't!!

Yes there are a couple of thread on this topic http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=229897.0
Yes I've done the Bosch aircon course.
