Title: Fitting 2E block with KR 16v head
Post by: tonsofun on 28 May 2012, 22:53
Have searched quite alot on this, seems it will fit fine, and oil ways line up.

However people keep mentioning i need to change intermidiate shaft, pulley and oil pump for a 16v one due to wider cam belt on 16v, and grind it down for clearance!

Has anyone got any pictures, and any idea if this is necessary?

Maybe im wrong, but i cant see why i cant use the 8v cambelt?

Also it seems people use this idea for turbo conversions to lower compression, if i done this on a N/A engine will it really lower the compression alot, and ruin the performance!

Any insight is welcome, anyone tried this before!?

Cheers
Mark

yu end up with a compresiion ratio of about 8:1  when presenting 8v pistons to a 16v head,  you also have to watch the clearance between the inlet valves and edge of the piston  ( need to notch pistons for clearance )  some ppl say no need to notch but that must be with a very mild cam and a head thats never been skimed.

8 valve cambelt running a 16v head is not a brilliant idea iirc  it fits and has been done   how long it works for........    but vw are very good at ueing the same part for every application possible so must be a reason they botherd to change it

8:1 cr on an NA engine will be in a word - sh!t
