Guysss...
It's upgrade time
What do you reckon to the galaxy s3, it looks awesome on paper and seems like a good upgrade to my iPhone 4. What do you guys think?
Wait for the iPhone 5?
-
Gotta be the S3, rumours are that iphone 5 will only have a 4 inch screen.
If you do go with the S3 then make sure you get the blue one, looks much better than the white version.
-
Might go for one, it'll be a change anyway.
It will definitely be a white one too
-
A friend of mine has pre-ordered a white one, has tried one in person says its awesome. I'm staying with my S2 but I'd also choose the white S3 looks mint
-
I was going to wait until it came out and have a go on one first but I think ill just go for it
I'll phone and threaten to leave Vodafone and see what deal they will sort for me
-
Think the S2 looks a lot better not keen on the new design..

Here's hoping!

I like the iphone size the way it is! fits nicely in your pocket The S2 felt massive when i had it
-
Ordered
Going to be up to 7 working days for delivery though
-
Dare I say it , might get one?? Its supposed to be light yrs ahead of the iPhone .
-
im thinking of getting one also... seems very good. Just gutted that all the new phones are touch screen :undecided:
-
The S3 does look good bit if it's anything like the S2 it'll feel cheap to hold. Don't get me wrong, they are great bits of kit. I will wait until the iPhone 5 comes out before I make any decisions though.

Been playing with my colleagues SGS3 all morning.
Screen is epic, very good. Speed is stupidly fast.
I did think my colleague was taking the piss at first though, as he is a bit of a joker, and handed me a dummy phone. It felt light and cheap to touch. Also the same android issue of selecting apps (as was the same with the SGS2) you have to push it perfectly straight, if you touch it at any angle it thinks you want to swipe, gets on my tits so much, iOS you need to put a bit of effort in to swipe anything which makes it less likely to happen by accident.
The size is just laughable though, i put it in my pocket and it felt silly after the iPhone being in there. Way too big.
Very good phone and the best on the market by far at the moment. Just standard things I dont like about samsung phones not fixed from the SGS2

Samsung are unlikely to fix your lack of manual dexterity, which sounds to be the main issue here.

Both myself and my colleague agree its too sensitive when you swipe, or touch, in this case.

Ha.
I think I'll be opting for an S3 as and when my contract is up. I seriously dislike the whole sheep/lemming following trend that Apple and iphones tend to have, every man and his dog who don't know much about/phones/technology get one. The S3 is undoubtedly a superior phone and you don't need every pieces of apple software on your PC to make it work.
Keep them reviews coming to really sway me
-
Buying an SGS3 to not be a 'sheep' is worse than anything. I bought mine as I like it, not because apple make it. Faggish reason is faggish

Good. You clearly both lack manual dexterity.

Standard Fandroid defensive responses, to be expected really. Ignore the fact I said it was a good phone, better than the iPhone even and run with the negative.
Carry on with your rage
(I've even discussed it on other forums who agree - even fandroids - that it does indeed swipe too easily)

Ahhh, so you like to surround yourself with those who lack manual dexterity. I see.

I take it you have had extended use of both phones like I have?

Leave the Apple lemming alone, you have a bigger screen Jules :smug:
-
I also had this debate and have decided to just keep my iPhone4 and wait till the 5 comes out. I just know if I get the S3 Ill miss iOS and cry myself to sleep every night.

why does everyone compare every tom n dick to iPhone, what apple started years ago with first iPhone, every maker is following it.
I recently bought HTC One X for my Mrs. and its very good phone, all the features are amazing but to all apple haters, have you heard about FACETIME. When other makers get there, don't know where Apple will be

hate to be the first to tell you but face time isnt the first app to allow video calling... its just the way they packaged it all up and made it easy for simple folk to use. yaw' all hear me
-
Or god forbid you use Skype  Cross platform, video and text chat... doesn't matter what the other person uses. Facetime is soooooo 2002/2003 when 3 had the only phones that could do it.
-
Upgrade due in a 2 weeks been offered an S3 for £27 a month (£50 handset cost) with same mins/text/data as my current £32 contract.
-
I really like mine in fairness. The screen is awesome and I love the fact it's bigger. It's easier to text, nicer to browse on ect. Live wallpapers are pretty cool too.
It doesn't feel as nicely build as my old iPhone 4 but it just feels too small now when I hold it.
Pleased with it in fairness
(it will still probably end up on eBay when the iPhone 5 is out though )
-
i really want one of these now... but £500 offline is a little steep

me also.. thinking of selling old phone and getting one. should only cost me about £300 on top. Might try wait until the blue ones come back into stock. Last thing I want is it looking like an iphone.

Apple made pioneering work when it came to the desktop PC and itunes as a distribution tool for digital audio. The rest of their "inventions" have simply been refinements or well marketed versions that have come out at the right time, for example (mobile) video calling has been around since '96 however the mobile network wasn't well enough established for this to be useful or cheap, more than a decade later apple "invent" facetime, nothing new just a new feature to sell their latest version.
-
and sorry to break the illusions of iTunes being Apples invention, but it wasn't. Some bloke came up with the idea and sold it to them

ok... the pressure got to me

Anyone got an s3 yet?
-
My sister has, I had a play with it on the weekend. Not liking it tbh, it's a bland product as ever from Samsung. Just my 2p.
-
well i just bought one anyway... cant get by with a phone that only lasts 6hours with full charge

What you got at the mo?

What you got at the mo?
BB bold touch 9900.
Battery has been dying very quickly. Last week got sent a new battery. Tried that and the same thing.
Got told to take to Voda shop to repair.. only to be told they are moving premises so I will have to drive to dewsbury or huddersfield to collect the repaired handset.
Managed to convince them to do an exchange at my home address, which they did today only to find the refurbed unit they sent doesnt work at all.
Now sending me a brand new boxed handset in white
So will stick that on fleabay and managed to get a new samsung for £440 so will probably only end up costing £200 which isnt too bad

broke the 'rules' apparently
i thought they just made them up to suit themselves.. strange.
Anyway I have taken the plunge with one... this will be my first android phone. so lets hope this is a better experience than the latest BB
-
I cannot for the life of me see how it will be worse than the BB.
My SII has been great. A mate of mine who's an IT bod in the aerospace sector and seems to get everything as soon as it's released has been posting very enthusiastic notes about his SIII.

Thats good to hear. Although the BB is very good at being a 'phone' but not much else. However 6-10hrs standby is a pi$$ take
No doubt the s3 has some impressive features but if it does being a 'phone' well, and by this I stress battery life and making all communications easier then it will get a big thumbs up from me. Everything else is an added bonus :nerd:

yeah yeah .... you sound like my lawn mower*
*even though its a petrol one
on a serious note... wny would I need my phone to do anything other than take calls. I spend most of my time in front of my lappy. :nerd:
-
if you only need to "take" calls would it not be easier to buy a bomb proof nokia 3210 or 3310 that lasts a week on one charge? you also get snake as a bonus!
im still on the original galaxy s, i was going to now get an S2 as i figure they will be cheaper/better contracts, but i may just miss the S2 out and go for the S3.

I do occasionally venture out... and then there is of course toilet time
-
Upgrade due today, now do i pop to tesco in the morning for an Galaxy S3?!
-
Dont do it Tim!!!
I can tell you wont like it and then youll cry when I have a shiney new iPhone5. Just go on a rolling contract and save yourself some money. Ive been a rolling contract for bloody ages now (almost a year!?) On my iPhone4 and only pay £20 a month.
-
got mine this morning... first impressions.... better than ipooo-ne
-
To be fair iPhone 5 contracts will start at around £40 which I won't be able to afford. May just get an SIII.

i wouldnt even bother with a contract.. buy sim free. sell when you want and save around £30pm off the price you would pay on your tarriff
I just happen to now have 2
pm me if anyone is interested... unopened S3
-
Just blagged a free S3 from O2 which should be here tomorrow.. Cant wait, just need to get it unlocked and a micro sim from Vodaf and will report back
-
i was seriously shocked when i couldnt fit my sim in.... i just pulled out the knife and trimmed it
this phone is pretty slick i have to say...
-
Without sound like a dumb f**k can i trim my sim to fit.. got the wifes 4s sim as a template if need be?
-
yes.
-
Contract makes sense £27 a month over 24 months £648 + £50 phone.
Or £500 handset, £10month(maybe more) x 24 months = £740
Also can't afford £500 upfront!

Only if you're going to be keeping the phone for 24 months.
Lets say £15 a month for a sim only deal then £6 for insurance works out at £752 over 12months, after 12 months you're gonna get about £150 back for the handset (cex, mazuma etc) at which point it's better than the contract. Like you say, if you've not got £500 for the phone upfront then you've no choice.
-
yes.
use the templates available though... i dont think mine will every come out
-

I do hope you don't have household contents insurance. If you do you should probably NOT be paying to insure your handset.

I do however the orange insurance also covers failure, loss, damage as well as theft.
-
Contracts are for pussies.
I pay £10 a month for a sim deal and get more than I need - 600 mins (with 0800 / 0845 number included), unlimited text, 500mb data.
I'll buy the phone outright and sell on when needed. Phone insurance through bank account.

Having displayed a few of the features to a few friends, they were mighty impressed. In fact 3 of them said ut would be their next phone as it clearly pi$$es all over ANY OTHER PHONE :lipsrsealed:.
... the other fan boy said he would wait until the something something '5' came out because it would be the bestest ever

most likely the network. I know numerous people with 4s's and they dont even bother with siri... its just a toy they stuck on to differentiate it from the 4. Vlingo is just as good if you can be bothered.

Vlingo isn't as good though is it?.....It can't be......its not made by Apple :lipsrsealed:

Siri is the sucks. If your phrase isn't one that tells it to fart then it queries Wolfram Alpha:
http://www.wolframalpha.com/
Other apps have been able to do things that Siri is only 'learning' to do now, a year after the others have been doing them successfully without having to 'learn'
If you ask Siri "What does an elephant sound like?" what does it do?

this stuff has been around for years and even if it gets the command right, is it simpler than just looking yourself??

Just ordered my S3. £28.50 per month, 600min, unlim txt & 1GB data. Pretty pleased as Orange could only offer me the same but for £36 in shop!? How does that work?!
Looking forward to seeing it

As out contracts are up 7th August we went looking at phone yesterday and today.
The HTC One X would have been my first choice IF it came with a decent pair of Beats earphones/headset - but alas it's elcheapo bog standard earphones, but it still has the Beats audio tweaks(preset EQ).
None of the stores we went into had or most not even knowing about the Lumia 900, or seemed confused that I was even considering a Windows Phone.
None of them could get us a working One X and S3 side by side to compare the screens, the One X has a higher pixel density but the Samsungs usually have better ratings.
The missus wants an S3 or Galaxy Note, so I'm sure she'll get one of them. Her only criticism was that they didn't have Windows Phone on them
I'm still undecided and need more info on the Windows Phone 8 devices, but I fear I can't wait that long and I'll be holding an S3 soon as the One X doesn't have the same build quality feel to it that my Aluminium unibody Legend does :undecided: But then I don't like the white or blue S3's :undecided:
-
Just go sim only and save a fortune ;)
-
monthly cost is irrelevant and I don't have the money for 2 £500+ smart phones. Seems Samsung have built in a lot of sharing features needless and pointlessly :undecided:
-
Jay, the One X was my first choice too but apparently the screen flexes on the corners and the size of the phone is monumental, with power hungry processors that are likely not to be pushed to the limits for everyday phone users. So I'm most likely going to the the One S, slightly smaller, better battery life and more suited to my style.
-
just to add that the S3 battery life is very impressive. I dont really close any apps once used but with moderate usage/wifi on permanently/blutooth on permanently and gps and maybe an 1-1.5hrs of phone usage the phone still last almost 2 full days.
-

Reading the GSMarena side by side review, the S3 does outperform the One X on most things, the One S does also out perform the One X on some things too, probably because it's resolution is lower. The "power saving" 5th core int he One X doesn't seem to be used as the S3 also out performed it on battery life, OK the S3 has 300mha more in the power pack, but not enough to double the life when playing videos...
I just don't like the colours :undecided: the blue isn't as bad in the plastic as it looks in the images of it, but still...
