Title: need some help regarding a sub.
Post by: karls3abo on 27 May 2012, 11:50
i have owned 5 mk4 golfs now, all with the same head unit and all with the same amp and sub set up, in exactly the same way, same earths and same routes for wires.
the only differenece is that that the last two i have owned have been pree 2000 models, one before my current one a diesel.

i thought it was because it was a diesel, but obviously not now.

basically, i seem to get interference through my sub, i notice it when nothing is playing or at very low volume if i press the brake, it pops slightly. and also when starting the car it follows the noise of the starter, also when i change it to cd on the head unit the sub seems to make the noise of the cd spinning? but alot louder then the other pops and noises,

any ideas?? my other golfs had no problem as i said and they were clear, i even had the power cable following the input cables and it did not effect it.

i have now ran the power cable down the other side away from the input wires and it has not made any difference

can anyone help?#

thanks karl

A big job, but I would run a new signal cable from the head unit to the sub. It sounds like the shielding has gone somewhere and is letting stray signals in.

You could try it out by just throwing a cable in over the seats to see if it solves the problem.

hmm might have a look, it has been in and out the car a few times, and my ground goes to the little earth point in the boot, on the left hand side where there is a round plastic type thing, with a black nut.

saying that i have just thought, that earth point could be for the lights, so when i brake and they come on maybe it effects the earth on the amp????

i seem to get interference from the back of the head unit also, if i wiggle the connector block on the back in a certain way it interferes,

annoying much!
