Title: JOM R32 front bumper
Post by: Paul81 on 25 May 2012, 15:28
Guys.

Just bought one of the above, it's arrived in black plastic.

Does it need to primered to have it painted in black magic?

Also does it need to be trial fitted before i take it to the body shop?

I'd be happy to do that Barry but I was hoping to drop the bumper off to get painted, then come back to get it fitted.

Would just prefer not be without the car.

Yes, it will have to be primed. The body shop will do this for you. Don't bother test fitting as its a good fit, I've had one!

if you prime it the body shop will just redo it. paintings all in the prep therefore they dont tent to like letting other people do the prep.

Just dropped it off this morning, should have it back next week, £100 to paint and fit which I thought was pretty good.

Anyone know where I can get a replacement grill in black? Not too keen on the silver grill.

Cheers.

Barry - I've asked the guy to paint it but he doesn't know how well it will turn out.

Cully - I've heard genuine grills don't fit properly on a GTI?

... The genuine parts... from VW... the company that designed and built the car.....

Not sure where you heard that but its gonna be a load of bollocks. I would be very suprised if an after market company can make something fit better than the orginal manufacturer.

I think he means the grills wont fit the JOM bumper.

I've jut got myself a FK r32 front bumper and got myself the gen r32 grills which wont fit the bumper. going to have to use some black silicone or something.

Yes genuine parts do have there problems like the r32 bumpers not fitting properly even the rline rear can be a rubbish fit.
An aftermarket company that makes things better than the original.....erm......... Milltek, superpro, forge etc theres loads

i found that the gen grills seem to fit the fibre glass bumpers better than they fit the abs plastic reps as i had both and believe it or not the fit is better with the abs reps but the grills are a b!tch to get right as opposed to just slotting them in on the fibreglass ones
