Was getting a lift this morning as I'm heading out tonight, as I get into my lift's car, the windows of my GTI just suddenly went down on their own and the car was unlocked.
Is this something that can be done from the car remote ? I did have it in my pocket so maybe I unlocked it I'm not sure, but for the windows to go down too ? Weird.

Yes mate, if you press and hold the unlock button all the windows go down and the sunroof (if fitted) will open.
Fear not!
And vice versa, press and hold the lock button to close open windows.

Ah thanks buddy thats a relief, must have been in my pocket and was holding the button down.

You can closes the windows and sunroof when you lock the car by hold the lock button for a couple of seconds. I would assume the same happens when you unlock the car but I personally haven't tried that bit. The unlock button must have been pressed in you pocket against something, just make sure your a good distance away before you put the keys in your pocket else you could leave it unlocked without you knowing.

Thanks.
Yeah after that happening I'll be more careful in future. I didnt had the car a while and I didnt know that 'feature' existed.
-
its a handy feature but one to watch out for
also its the reason i wouldn't fit the stronger boot struts for automatic boot opening via the key remote - if i accidentally pressed it in the house and the car is in the garage the boot lid would hit my garage door if it opened!
-
I did that once when I was in the US, pressed the boot release by accident when in the Hotel
Went out to the car later to get something and the boot was wide open
-
in the US? you mean the 'trunk' don't you?

Did you know, when you do the hatch pop mod, the boot doesn't open as far?
Mine used to open far enough to hit the garage door, but since doing the mod, it now doesn't.

the height isn't the only problem in my garage. the back bumper is about 3 inches from the door when its down so it would hit the door on its way up (and get wedged into the door no doubt and mean i can't roll the garage door up and cause a frisking massive headache!)
just reminded myself to let the baby nowhere near my car key!

A couple of weeks after getting our brand new Discovery 3 (about 7 years ago) I remember my dad loading it up with the garage door closed, boot open. I walked in the garage, hit the garage door open button and got the door wedged on the boot...in the end it didn't even mark the Discovery boot but the garage door still has a couple of battle scars! The Disco was a tough car!
Side note...we have a 2004 focus, and until ford changed the radio () our windows genuinely used to open themselves when parked  wasn't impressed!

Off on a slight tangent but does anyone know if you can programme this feature via vagcom to include the rag top on the cab?

I think you might be able to as I have seen a mod done on the Eos which closes the roof using the key

.........just make sure your a good distance away before you put the keys in your pocket else you could leave it unlocked without you knowing.
Have you tried seeing how far the remote works from?
Mine can easily lock / unlock the car from 400yards. Possibly further but I've never tried.
