As embarrasing as this is im sure im not the first :embarassed:
well i was in a rush to get going the other evening and was aware that my oil was very low so i threw some in stupidly not checking afterwards anyway long story short i have a lot more oil in than i was planning and have already driven 250 motorway miles and 60 A road driving (plus through towns) on it!
noticed today that it was hesitating alot whilst slowly accelerating and throwing out A hell of a lot more smoke than normal especially under a heavy right foot... i then clicked, stopped and checked that it was way above what it should. its now not going to move from my drive til i manage to get hold of a mates trolley jack to drop some out.
think it will have done any damage?
and its on a mk4 tdi pd 130
i have put in just over a litre and the dipstick is in the picture below... maybe im just the big dipstick :undecided:

but blurry from trying to hold the torch, dipstick and my phone, not a good day!

You will need to drain some, I have seen it done with a syringe and a length of clear tubing.
-
think im going to try and do it with a thin pipe down the dip stick pipe and try to suck it out without getting a mouth full
just been googleing it and read lots of horror stories about seals etc so im now worried i have done some damage to the engine...

You may be ok, drain it to the correct level and see how it goes

Take the oil filter off and drain that, thats about half a litre right there.

Way too messy, better to draw some out of the dipstick tube.

its a paper type filter isnt it? so the oil will just go into the sump. why not just get a jug and drain 2 litres out and then top up what you need to save messing round with tubes down the dip stick :)
