Title: Detailing Knowledge
Post by: Tornado GTI on 24 May 2012, 18:12
Hi all

I want to spend some time on my cars bodywork as it has swirl marks. I want to get rid of them and give it a mirror shine, The Meguiars ultimate quick detailer has been amazing but as the weather is getting better I want to get it looking fresh.

The question is dose anyone know of a good, cheep machine polisher and what products would help me get the results that I want?  Is the any shops that could give me some advice on what I would need as I could drive and show them the car?

Or is it just safer to get a professional to do the job for me? And if so how long dose it last after spending I am guessing £120.

would appreciate some knowledge ☺

There are plenty of detailers around that could do it for you - but it's not cheap.

A decent DA polisher will cost you £100 - a little more if you buy a kit and pads.

How bad are the swirls/paint?

A quick detailer is only good when you have done the rest of the prep (a good wash, clay, polish and wax).

TONA and Waxamomo on here can also assist in a good starter kit.

The paint is very good no fading and after a wash comes up very bright, the swirls are not that bad but i really want to see the body work flat and with a glass shine.

Thanks for all the links, will the kit you have made up for me remove the swirls if done right ?

Missing a few bits n bobs there, you'll need a a backing plate for the 75mm pad, plus polishes/compounds.

Fair enough with the backing pad, I forgot that!

But the Lime Prime is effectively a polish as it gives a light cut anyway.

Alternatively, give Christ at waxamomo a PM and ask if he can put you together a good starter pack for your money. He's very good and will give you a good price on everything.
