I'm looking for a bank account to put money in whenever I feel like it to use as a non spending, savings account. I want it to be free, no monthly fees for having it open, and have a card available so I can take money out if I wish to.
Currently I'm with lloyds tsb, with a silver account.
-
f**k tsb off there sh!te,natwest are ok
-
Neither of my savings accounts with Lloyds charge me, but neither let me have a card - so I transfer money in / out as needed. Won't that do? :undecided:

Yeah it could do actually. Do you have it linked to the current account?
-
Mini isa is your best bet i reckon, but again Im pretty sure u cant get a card for them

Yeah, both linked with my current account and show up in the online banking site and takes 20 seconds to transfer the cash.

i'm with natwest. all my accounts show up in one tab inc business accounts. I have a natwest app on my phone which means i can transfer money instantly between accounts. job done
-
Yeah that'd be fine Jay. Just looked on my account and had a look at some saving accounts.
I don't understand the difference between esavings and cash ISA saver though :undecided:

Ah I think I understand.
Cash ISA doesn't require you to pay tax on anything below £5,640 in a tax year. I'll pop into my branch tomorrow and speak to an adviser.

hsbc or barclays job done

Any money you remove cannot be put back in though. So on the 1st day of the new tax year you put in £5639, and then withdraw it. You can only redeposit £1 tax free.
Natwest online only accounts offer a semi decent rate of return, you just transfer any money you need online to a holding account when you need to withdraw it.
It's not a savers market though.
-
Will be even less of a savers market if the BOE goes ahead with a 0.25% rate cut as per IMF advice.
-
Another vote for Natwest too. Been spot on with me for the last 15 years, and I would recommend them to anyone tbh.
-
I'd recommend changing banks. Not the major high street ones
-
yep.. i bank with natwest, their online stuff is ok... easy to pop money about into different accounts.. if you have an iphone and the natwest app you can just whizz money from one account to another easily enough so you wouldn't need another card to carry about with you
-
Just having a look and with nationwide I'd have to open a new account with them, flexaccount.
This one looks good. http://www.principality.co.uk/en/Savings-Accounts.aspx (http://www.principality.co.uk/en/Savings-Accounts.aspx)

After working for NatWest for a time, the first thing I did when I left the bank was to get my accounts away from the sh!te outfit!
-
Sorry meant this

Going to apply now
Good interest + 12 month bonus.
-
all banks have good and bad things about them..... I still work with all of the majors daily! (after working for the largest!)
who would I recommend?? Well it's who has best access for you locally or best/safest on-line service.. pointless opening on-line only account and being away from your internet and needing cash! (or working bank style hours like me and the branch being closed when your off work)
-
First direct. Can't fault them, but you need a min amount going in each month or they'll charge.
-
Don't need to have fancy apps or anything to access the money instantly, it's money I plan on touching for stuff like holidays, big spends and new car (yes boys and girls, I'll be changing at the end of this year for something a little more buoyant ), so it's not money I'd need immediately.

Wouldn't be able to have that, some months I may put in, some I may not.

Another vote here for Natwest

What's more buoyant than a MK3?
-
Well if its not VW you'll instantly qualify for a moderator position..

If you look at my car history you would see a pattern emerging

I rate HSBC, especially how there online banking works compared to several banks I've tried, but I wouldn't touch your bank or the abbey, the words useless come to mind.
What your after might be an ISA or another saving scheme, or if you just want money aside without a constant saving pattern and want flexibility of when you may want the money why not get the bank to open another account and request that you don't want a card.
-
I sold my passat the other day and the guy gave me business cheque which I deposited in Lloyds TSB and the f***king banker got nuts and closed my account after doing some sort of verification saying they can't verify where did I get this money from
I asked to see the bank manager and she said the same. I gave them every piece of sh!t I can think of and walked out fuming

The one thing that frustrated me about HSBC was filling in a paying in slip every time yuo make a deposit in a branch.
I'm with Santander for my current/joint/e-saver and ISA and can't really fault them!
