Mk 6 GTI (or Golf R) owners wanted...
Every year, the July issue of Volkswagen Driver magazine (on sale at GTI International) is a "GTI Special' and we're looking for half a dozen owners who would like to write about their cars, for an owners' opinions section.
The cars don't have to be 'show' standard / highly modded or concours cars (although nothing wrong with that either ;) so long as there is an interesting story about them...
Basically what I am looking for is about 200-300 words, purely anecdotal, about your own Mk 6 GTI / R – why / where you bought it, what you like/dislike about it, any problems you’ve had, fuel consumption, costs, modifications made or plans for it etc...
Ideally, this should be accompanied by a couple of good quality digital photos of the car, preferably with you posing alongside it (?)
Can't guarantee we'll use them all, but will try... Some might even be worthy of a full feature – if you think so, then just write much more and send best quality pics :)
Best just to send a sample pic and basic details at this stage, but please don't PM, or send a huge gallery of build-up pics, just best one or two, and don't forget to include your full postal address, so that we can send you a copy when it is published :)
I look forward to hearing from you...
Regards

It was all going well until the "and don't forget to include your full postal address,"
Now I'm not saying for a minute you aren't a well trusted journalist or upstanding member of society but if a full list of GTI / R postal addresses fall into the wrong hands.........well I'm sure you get my drift.
-
I've done this before, and infact, have sent off a write up for my Mk2 for this issue.
There is absolutely nothing to worry about in terms of sending your address as it won't be published. However, if you are still worried about disclosing it, don't. Just buy the magazine in the shops.
This is a really good opportunity to get your car and words into print, and have a magazine as a souvenir to keep.
-
In the past I have also sent in a write up and details of a previous car (VR6) and as dubber36 says, your details do not appear in the mag.
I can also vouch for Neil, having met him on several occasions and we have several 'common' friends.............. If you get my drift
But if you don't want the free mag, or are at all worried about your details falling into the wrong hands, don't send them in

I completely agree with this, how are peope to know this is a genuine offer.
Would you send a stranger your Name, address, full details and pictures of your car, not a chance.
If you're interesting in doing this guys go to VW Driver Magazines website and mail the detail from there.

Mainly the fact that it's someone who has been around the VW scene for forever. It's not a stranger exactly and as said, don't send your address details and just accept not getting something for nothing :)

I would have thought that anyone who is into the whole VW scene, and has been for a few years, will know who Neil is...I've met him several times and would have no problem sending him my details.
As said above...he's been about forever!

Just give someone else's address you can collect mag from.
-
So then, is anyone goin to contribute?
-
I am, will get round to it this week.
-
Can we name and shame crappy dealers who messed us around loads and completely ruined our GTI experience? If so, I'm in!
-
Mate, you wanna try TL Darby in button on Trent. They've always been mint with me since I owned my mk2 15 years ago. It's probably a 40 minute drive for you.

I sent an e-mail last night, so I guess I just wait and see.
My previous car was featured in the magazine as DVLA sent me a V5 and changed the car to a Passat and I had to get a letter from VW (Germany) to confirm it was a Golf before they would change it.

A free magazine! I wonder how much they pay their full-time journalists?
-
I've submitted my written piece with the photos to follow once I meet up lwith the guy that bought my mk2. Response received, all is good.
-
I'm in for a magazine....

Anyone else noticed they havn't asked for any GTD owners to come forward!

I dont think they would go with that but you could always start a thread called "The name and shame crappy dealers who messed us around loads and completely ruined our GTI experience thread"

oh please don't get me started lol
I happened to pass the dealers yesterday and saw a nice dirty Polo GTI sat on their forecourt for sale, which now happens to have some slight profanities written on it regarding the uselessness of the said dealership. I don't know how that happened?
