Title: electric window not working but sounds like it's trying to!!!!
Post by: whit on 21 May 2012, 12:08
when i operate the switch i can hear a noise like it's trying to work but nothing happens?

there is obviously power getting to the motor but i guess either the motor isn't working? (if it wasn't though would i hear a noise?)

or the motor is operating but something else is stopping the mechanism?

the noise is like a buzzing or whirring sound so it's sound like the motor is doing something?

You will need to change the window regulator

I had this with a mk2 regulator. Although the regulators are different the principles are the same. I found that the cables get gunked up with crap which prevents smooth & fast speeds. If you clean the cables while moving reg open closed and regrease this should help. I also took apart the internal mechanism and motor, cleaned and greased everything up again. Seemed to work a treat. Cheap non-VAG regs seem to play up quicker than a used working genuine parts. Mk3 lecky regs are probably more common than mk2 so may be worth just buying another one.
