Hi;
I am new to VAG ownership, I have just bought a V.cheap Golf 5-dr TDi with 138k showing on the clock, although its tatty it's a nice drive. But lacks any power and is totally dead above 3,000 rpm. It does not burn or loose oil or over-heat. So before I chopit in or scrap it is there anything l can check to regain its potental. It would be a shame, as my wife does like it.

Could be a turbo fault, they are known for sticking vanes.

Yes, somebody else mentioned that! Is it an easy fix? Cost?

Not an easy or cheap fix you will need to replce the turbo.
Might be best to start with the basics, is the fuel system clean (check and replace the filter), pump or cam timing timing maybe out.

Correct me if im wrong, but assuming it is a MK3, the TDI doesn't have VNT Vanes?
Still sounds like a boost issue though..

Okay then, if it hadn't got variable vanes? will it be any cheaper. Coz at about £290 for a turbo I will be getting rid. ASAP.

It might not be the turbo, as I said earlier, start with the basics.
