hi all just purchased a mk1 gti and feeling the urge to get an engine transplant looking for a rough estimate on costs and suggestions on best engine to transplat looking for around the 160-70 bhp mark
-
for that kind of power your looking at a g60 or vr6, but both engine will be a bit long in the tooth and may require a bit off attention. also the vr will be very heavy. if it was me i'd go for a 20vt conversion which come in all sorts of power levels from 150bhp up to 225 then you've got alot of tuning potential on top of that. your looking at around £4-5k for a conversion.

you goner put yours on a rolling road soonish joe and see what its putting out :D

If you've not got several grand to do a conversion, you could get a 1.8 or 2.0 16v engine swap done for less than £1000 easily.
For that amount you could probably do several decent mods to it as well to get it above 150bhp.

where could i get a 2ltr 16v conversion done for 1000?  :undecided:
