Hi all,
It seems like there is always something in the way of getting my remap. Been put off for 4 months now!
So I am now getting a helicopter sound (I actually thought there was a helicopter above when it first started) which is getting worse and is now louder and turned into a sort of whirring.
It only happens when I am in gear doing 30mph-ish with foot off accelerator. It stops as soon as soon as I press accelerator or press the clutch in. It does sound like its coming from the front left but I'm not 100% certain (there is only so much moving around the cabin you can do while trying to drive!)
Any help would be appreciated.

Is it a grinding/rumbling sounding helicopter?
-
No, it doesn't sound like grinding and I can't feel any rumbling, I'd say its higher pitched than rumbling.
Yohan you are my hero! You helped me out with my blocked cat issues posted on mkivs!

mine does this if you have one of the rear windows down on the motorway
gearbox or clutch I would say

can you get a vid up??
-
Could it be a thrust bearing?

Might soy stupid I had this other week turned on to be gearbox mount bolts had snapped worth a look if u already haven't already

you need to sober up mate.

does it get louder when you go round a corner? is so itll be wheel bearing. if its louder on left hand bends itll be a right wheel, louder on right bends itll be a left wheel due to weight change etc. hope u get it sorted!

I've just fitted THS engine mounts with new bolts and the noise was there before fitting so I doubt it will be that. But will try and check.
I can also hear it very faintly when at standstill with the clutch up. When I press the clutch down the noise dies off after a second.
The car has a G60 flywheel and VR6 clutch with a new release bearing installed around 5k ago.
I will try and get a vid up but the cabin noise may drown out the sound with my phone mic.
Does this sound like a gearbox issue, I really dont want to have to buy and install a new one

clutch up would be input shaft bearing.

So I'm assuming it is worst case scenario and I need to replace my gearbox. I spoke to VW, gave them my chassis no and they told me I have an ECW gearbox and it should have 108mm driveshaft. (is this the same as driveshaft flange?)
I've done a bit of Googling and another post says that the drive shaft flange is 100mm.
Can anyone tell me if I have to go for another ECW or I could also go for an ENJ since they have the same ratios
Thank you
