Listen guys its been awhile since I've dropped any rear beam out and I've not done it with all four wheels in the air.
Curently two Axel stands on the sub frame and two on the rear beam got no sub axel as they are off the car.
From memory there are two jacking points where the covers pop up I've never used them as I think they are not strong enough, but there is no weight on the back so might be okay?
Anyone know where to position the Axel stands so I can drop the rear beam without damage? :undecided:

I think to do it safely the only place for axle stand would be the jacking points on the sill. Like you said there is not much weight there. Aslong as there no creaking from them when lowering it down should be alright. Maybe some bits of wood between stands and body to help spread the load a bit.

I would use the lower edge of the sill Jay, in the area that the emergency jack would be used, this may leave clearance problems with the V of the axle stands though, You could cut a V sections out of some wood to fill the gap (cross grain) then some wheels etc under the sills for insurance...

Okay wood is a good idea chaps I'm not sure of those jacking sills dont like using them at all but spreading the load makes sense!
I'm assuming the higher the Axel stands the better?
The front Axel stands might put them on the wishbones to space out the load?
I'm more worried about leaving it so high in the air kids play but know not to go near but thats just give me more worries.
I want to clean up the rear beam I've already done it roughly in situ but rust is coming back needs powder coating or Por15 in there. Another reason why being too low has caused issues for me.

Have you seen the rear beam thread on Ed38 mk2 section, worth a read

No Thom, you haven't got a linky to it please?
Thanks!

Sorry Jay, from memory it was the back end, worth a read anyway http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=449366

Glad Por15 was discussed yeah front end sub frame that would have been easier.
I can't remember how to drop out the ARB from the beam :undecided:
-
I use the points just behind the rear bumper.

I'll take a look fella

Stick your head under and have a butchers. Just dropped rear beam on mk3 and did mk2 a while back, but the sill is an area I definitely wouldn't use. I think in front of bumper bracket sounds about where I went, can't remember exactly what the underside looks like off the top of my head

Looked at the sill and not convienced the only place is the bumper but one issue the Magnex back box is in the way on the left :lipsrsealed: Looks like the jacking points are where there is a donut mound or reinforced section of steel.
I think If I can stick one on the right bumper and one on the left sill with wood the loads should be spread?
Good thing the tank is completely empty of fuel.
