Motor factors or local parts place.
They sell normal ones, not the slanted style needed for a vr engine :undecided:

Thin piece of alloy / tin and a hose clip might be worth a go.
-
use the same one you would on a 1.8 or 2.0.
ring compressors sold by size not application

Ive tried and broke a ring or 2, the angle of the bore means a normal compressor wont sit flush all the way round, leaving a gap for a ring to pop out.

Suppose it could be worth a go if i can cut the angle to an appropriate angle

Try VW, if it has a part No, it should be available to buy

the VR is 15deg angle,i cut a stock ring compressor to this when i have a vr apart, that special tool is still available from VW as a special tool for the 2.8 or 2.9 but they are crap and cause rings to drag and snap !
Cutting a stock compressor to 15 deg works best, tbh still is!

Whats the best way of doing this? A standard compressor is just rolls of metal and looks like it will bend and deform out of shape.
