Title: Tappets
Post by: andyxpress on 01 October 2003, 14:05
Hi
I am new to the Golf world having just taken delivery of a 1990 16V, only problem ( so far ) is the tappets seem to be quite noisy, is this a common fault on gti's and more importantly are they adjustable??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers guys

It is a common fault for the tappets to be noisy. They are hydraulic so are non adjustable. Are they noisy only when the engine is cold? Try flushing the oil out, or if that fails replace the tappets.

Thanks for that, it does seem to be more noticable when cold, however on closer inspection of the oil its probobly overdue for a service.
Thanks for the help

Use wynns flushing oil when you do the oil change, usually quietens them down.
