Hi everyone for 11 years ive been driving and tinkering with MK2's, recently I got myself a mk4 GTI turbo (AUM I think) with 29k! First thing I was looking at was a forge dump valve, but before I bought one my car started making it's own DV noise!
Kind of sounds like a group-B rally car when changing gears but I didn't add anything and it wasn't doing it before. I can't feel any power loss when on boost but I can't help but wonder if something has come loose and releasing pressure when it's not supposed to be. Can anyone advise, thanks.

Possible boost leak id say.
Have a look under the inlet manffold, there's a breather pipe prone to splitting, start the car and get some
One to rev, and have a hand/ ear all over the pipe work!
Fingers crossed it something simple :)

As above, probably a boost leak, also the DV's are pront to failing (the seal inside). Smoke test would be a good option if you cant visually see anything
-
how do you do that then? park down wind to a bonfire?
-
mine makes a slight sound when changing gear. is this normal?

it mapped? you have a uprated DV?

lol, light a fire and funnel the smoke into your pipes!
some people make their own, but for the sake of £30 your local garage should be able to accomodate

TBH that sounds about right. I do like this noise and when I fix it i will miss it
I'll get a friend to help me later...

depends on how loud it is, even with just a panel filter you can sometimes hear it a little.
-
No it's not that loud but I doubt anything regarding air filter because it just started happening all of a sudden. Like I said i do like it, but looks like it has to go!

Just decided I don't want to fix it, instead I'll put a proper forge DV. Unsure which is a better buy 007 or 008? Thanks again.

008 it is. Thanks for all your help guys!!

Let us know what you think of the 008  Also while your tinkering double check that all your pipes are on nice and tight!!!
Next step - get yourself booked in for a remap!

nope not that im aware it has a standard filter. i have checked all the pipes and they seem tight.
i accelerate and change gear it sounds like a very mini dump valve. i doubt it would be that loud to people outside of the car though
i think its pretty cool but if its not normal?
-
it will make a quiet tssssh with the standered airbox on and a load tsssssh with an induction kit

i had the same thing happen to me on my 1.8t, the problem you have is with the rubber pipe on the intercooler it is a really easy fix just push the pipe on the intercooler properly and tighten the jubilee clips properly and its done, you will find the car will be much more responsive once its done because your loosing boost. if i remember correctly the intercooler is a side mounted one which will be behind the drivers side wing someone correct me if im wrong.
-
your stock DV has failed. when you get the new one fitted the noise will be gone. then you can smash the old one open with a hammer and find the split in the rubber diaphragm :afro:
-
where is the dv? is it easy to change
-
yes Monty sounds like you have the same thin as me. I like the noise but rather than fix it I'm going to use this excuse to fit a 008 with this group-buy that we're definitely doing. I'm also interested to see the pipes going to the intercooler like what bhpamzz says.
Dont get me wrong a chip to go from 150 - 180bhp would suit me fine, but it's incredibly low mileage and unbelievably good nick with fvwsh i dont want to mess around too much. After the forge 008 an induction kit will follow. Tsssschhhh...

id just be happy with a decently priced dv. mines got 160k and she drives sweet. im not going to mess haha

My flutters especially from cold but I like it sounds good, and my new air filter from states is very loud hear it sucking constantly all time and it loud. Sorry wrong thread!!!!!

i get a few problems when cold so maybe it may be related to this. we will see
with a new sumpo rocker cover gasket and full service in the 3 weeks ive had it im strapped for cash :)
