Title: How to: Fit 12v socket in boot

12v socket for boot, cheap and easy upgrade, fits right hand side of boot

Time to fit: 10 mins
Tools required: Hole saw
Wiring required: None, wiring is present on all Golf's

Parts required:
7L6919341F - Housing - £6.33 + VAT
1J0867218 - Reinforcement plate - £0.26 + VAT
1J0919309 - Socket - £5.02 + VAT

1] Remove carpet trim panel from right hand light cluster area
2] Pop out boot light and disconnect wiring
3] Locate the 12v socket's wiring (2wires with a 3pin plug) its just taped to light cluster wiring

4] Decide on position you'd like the socket to be in
5] Use hole saw to drill hole through the trim panel

6] Test fit the 12v socket's plastic housing

7] Here is how the complete assembly fits together

8] Next its just a case here of holding reinforcement plate on inside of the trim panel while pushing the 12v socket assembely through, then fit the plastic nut and secure hand tight.

9] Connect wiring to 12v socket, find a 12v device anything from a pump to phone charger to test it, it should work right away.

10] Reconnect wiring to boot light, re-fit the small carpet trim panel and admire your work...

Nice guide - something to do this weekend :) will be useful if I need to use the 12v air compressor.

Is this the right one? as it has a 3 pin terminal and in your pics it only has 2 wires going into it?

Yes thats the same part, I confirm the wiring in boot has 3 pin socket with only 2 wires, thats how its meant to be  :wink:

Sweet, I'm gonna whack one of these in my mk3 boot. Handy for when pumping the mountain bike tyres up.
