Stole this from the BBC website as I think its a bit of an eye opener when we are whinging about pay!
I know inflation, cost of living etc affects too, but still, interesting find.

I checked Ukraine and it says $686 is the average..... and that would give me a decent standard of living (20 cigs are 65p, a litre of vodka is under £2 and petrol is about 80-90p litre)

Unfortunately as Boney pointed out, you can earn $686 in the Ukraine and live an OK life, try live on that here... pretty pointless comparing your own salary to someone in another country that earns less, but pays less for everything.

After tax its good! I earned good money before markets turned around and FKed me in the ar$e :sad:
Funny thing is being a modest earner meaning bills and food paid for is not that bad.
Credit as we know it, skews alot of figures!
Miss conception that high earners earn more is false if you broken down the hours these guys pull it was average wage plus the stress and health issues invovled really meant yeah I earn sh!t loads, but nothing to show for it.
Plus I've always said the more you earn the more geared debt you have, so someone earning more money doesnt mean he actually has more cash in his pocket than an average blue collar worker.
For example someone who has a mortgage worth 2K a month or a chap who has to pay £800 per month?
I say the fall is greater with the larger mortgage :lipsrsealed:
plus 200K would buy you a fish bowl and 150K would buy you a detached house up North?
Percentages are indexed against a bench mark thats why is over 100% buddy!

Doesn't sound easy to me sounds like not much fun, I have been there when I got made redundant years ago it took me a while to get back on my feet was a tough time but does make you appreciate everything you have.

I'm talking about nice holidays, nice cars, not having to worry about bills coming in , money isn't everything but certainly makes life a lot easier.
As for mortgages they actually cost less than most rental properties round here

I have I live much simple life now time with kids and family I worked hard since uni for 15 years paid for house and kept us happy, but with me not being there noone was happy so I'm working hours I want and paying for things as I save.
My mk2 project was done on budget hence why it was taking so long.
Responsibilities are still there, always going to be there, but when you start spunking hundreds on finer things you have to question that money makes you buy sh!t you dont need?

I still have £800 suits in the wardrobe and two dozen shirts with ties I haven't worn in six years :lipsrsealed:
I'm all for making money, but somethings in life have more priorities.

My friends are all VPs and they thought I was crazy to do what I did and leave a big salary job! But everytime I speak to them they are not happy none of them. They dont even know why they are doing that job for.
I said its because of the money! They all say most of it goes on mortgages and they have no free time to enjoy it?

Very true. I remember going upto to London Bridge everyday for 10 years and it started to eat away at me once the first kid came along. Much more to life than money, although it does help.
