Title: Help wiring amp MK5 GTI
Post by: magsmagsmags on 11 May 2012, 22:21
Hello

Recently upgraded to a mk5 golf Gti, the previous owner had kindly left me wiring in for a sub / amp so i slapped mine in to find it didn't power on or play sound from the stereo
I followed the wires round the car and realised that the remote wire and red / white audio cables weren't connected to anything, so i ripped apart my dash to get the stereo out only to find there is no connection on the back for sub out or rear out - the stereo in question is one of the touchscreen VW jobbies.

What's my best option here? I know the remote wire can be connected to the stereo power, that's not an issue (although it would be handy if someone could tell me what wire to splice into)
Just need to know what to do about the audio cable?

Thanks

You need a line out converter (LOC).  You connect your speaker outs to that and it gives you a line level audio signal.  That's assuming you dont have an amp. which can take speaker level signals?

You can get LOCs which will auto detect the signal and give you the remote turn signal also.

A more expensive option is to go for a signal processor such as a JL Cleansweep, Audison Bit ten or Audio control lc2i.  The advantage of these is that they flatten the audio signal (the Vw units have tone crves applied) so that you have nice clean flat signal.  You could go to one of these if the LOC doesnt give you a sound you like.
