Yes after i put a few miles on it, been telling Doc i was going to go see him when i had the GTI for months but just never got round to it.
-
Absolutely love the colour and the anthracite alloys will look great
-
So jealous!! Wheels will look awesome with the CKs. Anthricite on a blue car = the sex!! :-D
-

Anthracite with rising blue looks spot on, ran that colour combo on my rocco

Looks great, looking forward to some more pics. Like the GTI flag on the wall

Very nice, best colour and wheel combination for an R
-
So whats your initial thoughts compared to the GTI? I test drove a used one recently and was left wanting tbh, it was definately quicker but not as much as i'd like! I'm hoping you'll say i'm talkin rubbish and the used one was knackered!
-
Your car looks fantastic. I reckon the anthracite wheels would just top it off.
-
Very nice  darker wheels would really finish it off.
-

Let's not start this up again. Or, at least if we do let's start a new thread so the guy can enjoy his R.:laugh:
-
You lucky man sundaydriver, 3 months - I placed my order on 4 Feb, still don't have a confirmed build week - got week 27 provisional [Put back from 23] Seeing your pic has made me start hankering after mine even more. Think it might be the DSG that's causing delays.

Your right about DSG, my salesman said VW had a shortage of DSG boxes which were causing long delays.

I can't really tell you if its quicker than the GTI as i havn't put my foot down in it yet but what i can tell you is that i absolutely love it!
-
looking forward to seeing it with the BBS wheels on
i don't like the gloss black talledega's on the rising blue but the silver look great and i think the anthracite BBS will look spot on.
-
It is quicker and will feel it too as the EA113 (I think that is right) with K04 has a different torque curve and will be more fun because of it
-
but remember it's a lot heavier and 4 wheel drive reduce WHP so probably not much in it in the dry.obviously in the wet 4wd will be a massive advantage.
-
Congrats on your purchase ... best colour too !
I'm sure you'll love it ... had mine two years and still can't wait to jump in and drive it ... whatever the weather !
Look forward to the pics with BBS ... I reckon they will look great.
-
I can't really tell you if its quicker than the GTI as i havn't put my foot down in it yet but what i can tell you is that i absolutely love it!
...and that's all that really matters!
Lovely car  Enjoy it.
(I think it will look awesome on the BBS...I'm not so keen on the standard R wheels)

Agreed, although hos opinion will be more valid than most as he's actually made the switch.
Enjoy, thats the combo i'd go for except with more doors. :lipsrsealed:
-
That's got to be the worst golf I've ever seen. I'm a bit jealous
-
Beautiful Car and excellent choice of colour SD - I can see the grin on your face from here
The sun is shining here today so lets see some snaps - especially with the BBS' on - I think they will look cool on it (and different as the few R's that I have seen are sporting the stock alloys)
-
Well done pal great looking motor, I keep thinking about a change to the R, I need to test drive one as I couldn't live with the mk5 R32 over the gti, it just felt too heavy and not as nimble as the gti,
I hope the now lighter engine in the R over the 3.2 lump has made a difference
Keep us posted on your thoughts on this ?
-
Can I have first dibs when you sell it?
I want an R but would have to win the facking lottery.
What a stunning car you've bought!!!!!!!  Health to enjoy.
-
Welcome to the R club . Very good choice on the colour. The biggest thing you will notice is the traction in the wet, it really is impresive, but be warned the 4 wheel drive system can catch you out as it shifts power to rear, I am only speaking from experience. Enjoy it, but I tell you now these R's drink fuel like you would not believe

That because of the K04 Turbo ? :undecided:

That because of the K04 Turbo ? :undecided:
Which part Steve?
The thirst of the earlier 2.0 TFSI engine, or the unpredictable behaviour of the Haldex 4WD system?

Was the comment above to me Phil ?
If so I would put my car back to standard if I did sell it and get an R
-
Stunning!! Don't forget some more pics when ya get a nice day.

Put the CK's on today to see what they looked like, hmmm not sure TBH. :undecided:

Very nice , you opened it up yet ?
-
I think that looks spot on to be honest. Gloss black can look good but unfortunately every punter seems to have gone for black alloys recently. The anthracite gives it a more purposeful look than the silver but still looks classy. I've recently had my 17" Monza wheels finished in Anthracite.
-
I'll add though that I can understand why you're unsure. The R doesn't have any chrome work on it really and so the gloss black tends to blend in better with the colour scheme of the car. I'd stick with the wheels as they are though. Be confident!
-
Hmmmm the CKs are lovely......... but so are the Talladega!! Oh must be so bad being in your shoes! Lol
-
What size talledegas have you got, and what's ya plans with them? I like the ck's, been looking at 19" this afternoon.

Thanks Penguin, TBH with the CK's on it feels like a different car, the car feels more alive, more responsive and like you have more grip etc.
Very nice , you opened it up yet ?
No not yet, just taking it easy till i get some miles on it.

I've got 19" talladega's on the R, the CK's are also 19"
I'm going to defo keep the talladega's BUT may sell the CK's if they don't grow on me.
-
Mmm interesting! Couldn't temp you with a swap for my Watkins? Cheeky I know!
-
i think the CK's love class on there. i wouldn't be swapping them back!
do they feel any lighter/heavier than standard wheels?
-
Put the CK's on today to see what they looked like, hmmm not sure TBH. :undecided:
I think they look really good; much better than black. I'd keep them on the car.
Really nice car by the way. RB is a great colour. Enjoy.................
-
Awesome with addition of CKs.
-
The wheels look superb on the R mate.
They'd look better on my GTI though, now sell them to me like you nearly did last year
Jim
-
CK's look better than I was expecting  but I would choose the Talladega's
-

They feel a lot lighter than the Talladega's, the car drives, handles and feels a lot better with them on BUT looks wise i'm still not sure..
PLUS i got the car over 30mpg with them on!!

I just might do that Jim.

That is dynamite!!
Forget the nasty Tallys...those look awesome.
What a colour combo. I doff my cap...that is the best looking R I've seen yet.
-
As much as I'd like to disagree so that I can buy those wheels, that colour and wheel combination looks superb.
Jim
-
Looks very nice indeed. Best R colour and those wheels look finish it off a treat.
-
Love the CK's on it. Definitely stick with them IMO.

Congrats on the new car, look amazing and + 1 on the ck's which make it stand out from the croud even more.
I've got major car envy now........ Can I borrow it weekends?
-
Your R looks Stunning. The wheels are the icing on the cake.
Best R I've seen by a long mile.
Enjoy her in good health.
-
Really nice, good combo there!
-
Looking good. Bought back happy memories of my R ownership before I went insane and bought an Alfa Romeo.

I was thinking of getting an Alfa as a second car, must be a V6 for the noise! I wouldn't replace the GTI but how are you getting on with it? Sorry to go off topic .

+1
Have to agreee!!! fabtastic choice sunday. The Haldex isnt unpredictable like some on here say, it just takes a while to learn how to drive one
p.s. if you get a chance to turn off the ESP in the dry... give it a try. Totally different animal
-
That is the best looking R I have seen
Much better with the BBSs on than the Tallywotnot thingies :smug:
As said earlier it just needs a tap with the old lowering stick. Enjoy !!!!..
-
The Haldex isnt unpredictable like some on here say, it just takes a while to learn how to drive one
Since Haldex is reactive and subject to electronic inputs and not purely mechanical (as in Torsen) it IS inherently unpredictable...I agree, it takes some time to learn...and you learn you can never be 100% sure of what it's going to do.
It's a good system...just not as predictable as a mechanical system.
As long as you understand that...it's spot on.

but remember it's a lot heavier and 4 wheel drive reduce WHP so probably not much in it in the dry.obviously in the wet 4wd will be a massive advantage.
The weight obviously does affect it, but the Haldex system is not permanent 4wd so the power loss is minimal as power is only transferred to the rear as required. The system has been upgraded from the version on the R32 as well, so it doesn't rely on wheel slip to send power to the rear wheels.

Sunday, got my build week confirmed at last - week 24, 11 to 15 June; should have car by week 28, 9 to 13 July.
BTW, from the sound of it I'll be in a minority saying this, but I love the silver Talladega's and think they look a lot better than those BBS you've put on yours - sorry

Good news hope the time goes quickly
As I have already posted I am with you on the Silver Talladega's. Dont get me wrong I like the CK's as they are a similar design to the Pescara's on the ED30 but for me they look like an older design. The newer wheel designs are more angular and this is what suits the MK6 better IMO.
-
You have the Hybrid on there now looks the nuts

I love the Talladega's and they do look better than the Ck's on the car BUT the difference handling wise is amazing. With the CK's on the car drives, feels and handles a lot lot better, maybe the sh!tty dunlops on the tally's have a part to play with that.

What tyres have you got on the BBS's ?
-
What tyres have you got on the BBS's ?
Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric's
-
Its the dunlops mate
Combination of things, I'd say.
BBS lighter?
BBS wider?
Better tyres?
All will change how it turns in, how nimble it feels and outright grip.
-
Its the dunlops mate
Spot on Steve, got the Dunlops taken off and replaced with Goodyear F1 Assymetric 2's , wow what a difference.

Fantastic summer tyre the F1's but they do struggle at -1 temps !! How's the motor now, you still getting a hard-on every time drive it? Are you going to let Doc play about with?

Car looks great but for me even better on the standard 19'' alloys.

Sunday, were the Dunlop's that came with your R the SP Sport MAXX GT; if not which ones were they?
Thought you may also want to read this http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2012-Sport-Auto-Summer-Tyre-Test.htm (http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2012-Sport-Auto-Summer-Tyre-Test.htm)
Looks like your choice of the Goodyear F1's is a good one - bettered only by the Pirelli P Zero in these tests.

Not sure about the re-map just yet, still trying very hard not to floor it until i get a few miles on it and then we'll see.
