Hey there,
Anyone ever used a heat gun to bring the plastics back up? I've seen it on youtube, looks pretty easy!?
Just sick of back to black. I bought a can of black spray dye the other day, I think it's Auto Glym. Gona have to mask all the paintwork up first, but it sounds pretty good.

Very easy and quick,

Nice!
Is there a certain heat to have the gun at? If it's variable that is.
-
Did my golf last weekend, get it super clean before you start. Its bad ass, makes them look sweeeeeeeet
-
Got my heat gun off eBay for £4, on has one setting, HOT!!!
-
I did my motorbike plastics with my blow torch!! Works the same but faster and more lethal
-
I have tried this on my plastic trim.
It's best to keep the gun moving. Don't be tempted to leave it in any one position for too long or you can get a bit of a blotchy finish, especially on the bumpers. The results I got were pretty good (but of course are not permanent). I supplement the results by dressing the plastic with tyre blacking foam when washing.

I can't wait that long
Got them in B&Q for £20.
Black plastics tomorrow! I'll stick pics up once I'm done.

Looks good. How long should it last?

First degrease and clean with isopropyl alcohol. I used a blow torch which is much better than a heat gun but be careful.
I tried the most cheap products from boiled linseed oil to expensive gtechniq c4 permanent trim care but the plastic on one of my bumper was unrecoverable.

After trying every product on the market to get that dry look I ended up painting the texture with plastic primer and then a few coats of matt black paint. Matt looks better than satin as it blends in better.
Bumper now looks better than new. Shall get pics when the sun is out.
Autoglym plastic dye does not work! Tried it! Just keep it for the parcel shelf and black carpets.
Gtechniq is the way to go but make sure the plastic is not patchy or it will be sealed like that.
Forver black is like a paint but they call it a dye. Used it on my side trim and have not touched them since.

All the products above can be removed with iso alcohol.
If anyone wants any trim care then let me know.

Wow. Some places selling the Forever Black kit for nearly £50, others for £13. Talk about Rip Off Britain

Anybody tried Black Wow?
I use black wow and it does work for about 3 months... Not cheap but the bottle has lasted a couple of years now...
I have also bough forever black to try but I have read that it is difficult to use and to get a good even finish...
Never tried the heat gun - scared I might melt the plastic or paint....
-
I'm lucky that my car had been garaged all it's life, so it has original non faded plastics. I give them a layer of AG bumper care now and again and then buff the shine away to leave a natural matt finish.

Just read all the Honda Thread & Thought this post was interesting...
I would like to mention that the creator of Black Wow created an account a couple of weeks ago here on HondaSUV.com in order to send me a PM about the testing. He explained a little more about what I was seeing, and answered some of my questions, and explained that with older, more faded plastic that it might take several applications of Black Wow over several days or even weeks to stop the Black Wow from fading as the plastic absorbs the Black Wow, but even then I might still need to reapply it every few months.
So it's obviously not a product you can apply once and forget, like Forever Black dye or painting the trim.
He also said that after I followed his suggestions that if I wasn't happy with it I could send him the remaining Black Wow for a refund.
Because of the time he took to explain how it worked, and his recommendations for applying it, and of course the refund offer, I'm going to give Black Wow another chance...just as soon as it warms up.
