8k won't get you a new car with that performace, will probably be a cheap runaround kind of car.

RS4
Golf R32
Impreza WRX ?

Does it need to be practical?
If not, you could get a 2nd hand Lotus Elise. Ok it might not have 250bhp, but it'll actually be quick due to power:weight ratio.

With the added bonus that because it has a M3 panel it will mean its not a 1.8

E46 M3s are a nice place to be!

Too many doors. 3 doors are faster  :roll eyes:

My money would be on an R32 if you're not worried about the running costs. If you are then... well if you're looking at diesels then I'm out

Bollocks to a E46 M3, far to many problems to be buying one with out a very good warranty. Excellent car to drive just far to costly when they brake..

It's not the worst looking skyline I've seen but I'm not sure that it meets the criteria of "newish" car. It is still the better part of 20 years old.

What about a Sunny/ Pulsar GT-R? Do have a soft spot for them.  (Although again not fulfilling the "newish" criteria )
