Title: wish me luck!
Post by: Seanl on 10 May 2012, 11:03
Well my job, career, possibly home, lifestyle, CAR, all balance on the shoulders of  three medical professionals that I will be sat in front of, pleading my hearing is good enough to remain in emploment. My Board sits at 2.10 so I'm sat at the Institute of Naval Medicine bricking myself right now! Wish me luck!

Thanks for comments from everyone.
Well I've been given a stay of execution for a couple of weeks. The board have passed me fit but with caveats. I cannot do operational land deployments (Iraq/Afghan), I must be on a capital ship with a surgeon, I cannot be exposed to areas of possible high noise levels without ear protection , and I can only do foreign service ashore in bases with full medical facilities.

Another group will now sit on the last tuesday of the month, and decide if I'm employable in my specific role. The board have put their assessment accross for it though, and its looking slightly more positive about it than I was though. Will await the outcome of the employability board.................... :undecided:

thats the way to look at it, make the most of take and mends

I've just been de-selected from lrcc I've got legs issues and can only do the rock port walk but I'm 24 so have to score 46.4% not easy as it sounds. but joined the lancaster today and going to sea moandy (first time in 2 years) going to be a shock to the system

you still at SFM then?

Sorry dude been at the father in laws in Banbury all w.end. Yes I'm still at SFM, tabs out but dunno if it'll last now! I've been selected for PO, and I did SRLC in 2010 which was actually when my ear became really bad, and led me to see a proper doc rather than the scab lifters that had been fobbing me off for the last 5 years!  I had a course date for the 28th of this month actually, but that was cancelled due to the med board. If they keep me in I'll go straight on course cos I'm ready in all respects to start. Med board are trying to push for it too which is nice I spose!

Shut it fodder!

Medical pensions ok, just a bit of a top up as I'll be lucky to find a job that pays anywhere near the same. I doubt I'll get anything from the compensation scheme either as it wasn't caused by the mob, although the amount of time it took em to get something done amounts to negligence in my book, as it could have been sorted with a simple course of antibiotics a few years ago! Its all in my report though.

Fair play, not something I would want to do in all fairness.

In 13 years, the best I got was a business class flight from Izmir, Turkey to Heathrow.
Stayed in the Shangri La in Kota Kinabalu - Borneo, but I flew the missus out and paid for that one. That cost me a few bob though!

I'm smashing them in while I am young, at my second deployable unit now, by the time I leave here I should have the ACSM purely from Afg, then I will settle into a normal craphat way of life by getting fat, not doing as I am told and working 40% of the year..

That said, I got back from Afg in Jan and I have only done 1 full week in work since.. If I aint on courses I am playing ice hockey or on Adventure Training..I pretty much have my dates for the next 16 months for when I am going away too haha

Got the signal from the employability board today! They've decided I'm far too good, and much too important to them to let go! lol. I've been give a few restrictions, (no overseas land deployments (Iraq/Afghan), annual audiograms, no prolonged exposure to loud noise, blah blah blah!). Need to get myself booked back on PO's course again now, as by rights they can now send me straight back to sea!  I've gotta go through the whole process again in 12 months though, as the Board want to see me again once the surgeon has discharged me from his care. (matter of course provided there's no problems). But this should be the end of all the doubt and worry now.

Got a PO's course start date for 30th July!

Really need to pull my finger out now cos the wife wants to come up too, so need to get the house sorted out and rented as well as a married quarter sorted up there, and the young un's school sorted too!  Gotta revise like feck as well as its pure maths to begin with at degree level!

Its all coming together though! Just had a letter back from RBS PPI claims department offering me £1180 odd quid from my loan, and wiping off another £53 each month! Thats the costs setting up the rental sorted!  :smug:
