Post by: dub-gti on 09 May 2012, 21:25
ok so 1.8t engine, of course it has a smic.
so would this work as well as any fmic on ebay or else were?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-AUDI-INTERCOOLER-PART-NUMBER-1K0-145-803-AS-/320903290879?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4ab7539fff#ht_500wt_1287

or best just to get a proper fmic?

dont want any think lary but also want decent cooling, looks to have quite a large surface area, but of course plastic caps.

Buy cheap; buy twice

THS or Forge is what you want as they are designed for the car

thanks love, that would be great

well stricly speaking id say buy cheap buy twice but there are many things that are cheap and have good if not the same quality,

i was just thinking of a way to have a fmic with out having the extra piping, and seens as its for the 1,8t set up thinking it may just bolt right in.

but if its no better then a smic, then ill go for something else.

thing is i dont really want one sticking out the bottom of the bumper so do i need to go bigger then normal to compinstate for the restricted airflow due to the bumper and grill?

The problem with the cheaper ones is not i/c itself its the pipework and the routing of it.ive been looking into front mounts myself for mine and think ths is best design and the most discreet.saying that though a lot of ppl are running the ebay ones.you need advice from the people running them ones i think mate.from wot i can gather they do work well though

thats what im saying, ok granted there not going to be as long lasting as say aem, or allard but to be fair. theres not really alot of stress at thepower im going to run, ko3s currently, upgrading to a ko4-015 hybrid (when i decide which cold side to have! maybe even do a ko3s hybrid of some kind

it all boils down to how much time you're prepared to spend doing the trial and error cutting/fitting and removing/refitting the bumper a gazillion times to get everything to sit tidy.

ps the k04-015 is for longitudinally mounted engines (A4, passat etc)

ohhh in that case fmic is a piece of cake! you already have a pipe either side in roughly the right place. its just a matter of bypassing the standard cooler and the metal boost pipe that runs under the rad
