Yes
Not really.
Read dai cymrus project thread for details but basically youll need a donor car. Equally these days 1.8ts are so cheap its not worth converting the 2.0

Agreed and your insurance may be more because you would have a modified car

As posted sell up and buy the 1.8t easier in the long run

Convert it

Convert it
Awesome advice! :lipsrsealed: Go with what the others have said its much cheaper to just buy a 1.8t People have done it but it costs a lot more!! You will pick up a clean 1.8t for a good price and less problems with insurers!

I went from a 2.0 to a 1.8t, though that was in a mk3 :P If you can buy it then buy it, its only worth doing a conversion imo with something that cant be bought (eg 1.8t mk3) cant see the point in dropping a 1.8t into a mk4 if you can just go out and buy one
as far as insurance goes, if you go with sky you will get a 20% discount and they also insure it as a 1.8 regardless of a conversion or not, my insurance actually went down after my conversion :smug:

your insurance went down after a conversion that doesn't make sense lol

Sometimes it can with specialist policies, mine was cheaper (over £200) with Brentacre and all mods declared against a standard policy with Swinton.
