Hi everyone.
I am new to this forum. From Johannesburg, South Africa.
I currently own a new VW Golf MK6 .:R, a 2007 Golf MK5 .:R32 and an imported 2003 Golf MK4 .:R32.
We did not receive the Golf 4 .:R32 as an option in South Africa. Let alone the 2 door variants of the Golfs. other than the Mk1 Golf and a handful of mk4 1.6's.
I have owned over 15 VW golfs and recently sold my mk3 GTI 2door Golf imported and my 2009 Golf 5 GTi. To purhchase the mk6 R and the Mk5 R32.

Thanks. The only attention I receive is when the MK 4.:R32 is out and about as its a 2 door and possibly the only one that I have found registered in SA.

yeah good stuff dude, its a shame that SA dont get the 3 door versions of vw,but saying that if one did what you did by importing them its one in a million, ftw (for the win)

Thanks Anthony,
I bought it from another guy that imported it to SA. He was a returning citizen etc and had all the proper documentation to do so.
If you are staying in SA and want to import a vehicle from your side, its impossible.

Welcome to the forum!
Thanks Jord_GTI
For the other African countries maybe. As their importing laws are less restrictive. So importing cars to those countries are much easier and cheaper.
However importing rules and regulations in South Africa are very difficult to get around. So it is near impossible to import a car. However if you are a SA citizen returning to SA and have being working/staying in the uk and owning the vehicle from a minimum of 6months, you can apply for the import permits etc and then it is legal and easy.
With that said, the statements regarding car prices in South Africa compared to the UK is true.
The mk6 R20 costs around ZAR470K which equates to approximately GBP37000.
The mk5 R32 costs around ZAR280K which equates to approximately GBP22000.
Now the MK5 R32 in the UK can be purchased for half that price or even less. And imported to South Africa way cheaper than buying one here and it will have the uniqueness of being a 2 door.
We pay R200K to R120K for a mk5 GTI were as on your side its approx. 5000 pounds.
MK4 gti’s we pay anything from R50K to 120K
Mk3 gti’s we pay anything from R20K to R80K
Mk2 gtis if you can find a good example from 20K upwards.
Mk1 gtis cannot find any…
