Title: How modding used to be done
Post by: chrisr103 on 06 May 2012, 10:48
Read this on another Forum & thought I would post the same link on here,

Brought back some really good memories of buying my first car & wanting to mod it tlike these were done

http://www.rsownersclub.co.uk/rsocbb/showthread.php?t=400224

Real blast from the past for some of us on here, Some of the younger ones will probably look at the thread & think WTF were they thinking

I miss them days

you could do many/any mod without upsetting the dvla (or whoever!) and bits were much easier to get (scrapyards were everywhere and full....It was dangerous climbing onto the top of 3 badly stacked cars to unbolt some bits but that was part of the fun!), and that's the only time I owned a vauxhall and it gave me some street cred! (1986 Cavalier SRi with massive alpine stickers on it!!)

oh and the red mk1 escort shown on them pages... I remember that being built and selling some of the bits that were fitted to it!

That all brings back some memories, i remember that carlton gsi on tri spokes very well and my brother and i both had 4x4 mazda 323 turbo's, cracking little motors and tough as old boots.

Yeah +1 and some of the power figures that people got from that little motor were insane.

For our last issue when we closed Max we did a poster which had every single cover we'd ever published. There were some very cool cars on the covers!

I didn't realise it was no longer in publication and after just reading the Wiki write up I've learnt that Fast Car, Revs & Redline are also deceased. How times change...

I guess the whole move towards more eco-friendly cars and insurance prices/tighter mot regs  have moved modifying out of reach of the
people who were fearless enough to build and run some of these motors.

1. bodykits were never cool.
2. 3-spoke alloys were and never will be cool.
3. Fast Car, Revs and Max Power were never cool.

Think the only common denominator in those statements is the bloke that made them.

Kit Kat wrappers on wheels, I know someone who had a Skeet R5 i think the body kit weighed more than the car
Great fun though and a good alternative to all the Fords and 205's of the day, Uno turbo was pretty much the same

Uno turbo's were friggin scary. My mate had one and deceided to lose control of it down a country lane with me in the passenger seat, before we knew it we were launched into the air about 20 feet and barrel rolling across the farmers field at 60mph.
Needless to say there wasn't much left of the flimsy sardine can and the roof was completely collapsed in on top of my left shoulder obliterating it....my friend was projected through the sunroof whilst it rolled and miraculously came out virtually unscathed.!!

I don't mean the stuff that simply has a pearl effect - but instead the proper "look this way it's green look the other it's blue" type of paint.
