Just got my paypal hacked/fraudededed.
Some f**king plonker idiot thingy some how mananged to get my PW and attempt a bank transfer of £800 to himself. I feel I am very fortunate as I checked my email just as I got the automated email confirming the transfer. I immediately called paypal and they were very helpful and quick to deal with it. They cancelled my account and stopped all transactions from going through. Moments later I got another automatic email saying that the transaction had been refunded. Thank god it never went though...Although the bank would have struggled getting £800 from account :lipsrsealed:
My computer is virus protected, as per, I am always savy and upto date with my virus checks/spyware blockers etc etc. The lady at at paypal suggested that perhaps someone had a keygen, or something were they could see what I was typing. I have run a full virus scan and nothing has come up :undecided: Obvious I have changed all of my PWs and have informed my banks of the event and warned them to 'not allow' any transactions from paypal until the dispute is resolved. Paypal will be opening a full investigation to try and reprimand the illegal user.
Just thought I'd warn you lot...I thought I was 'safe'. Evidently not :sad:

Funnily enough I had my paypal hacked and £800 removed from my bank account a couple of weeks ago (Friday the 13th lol). There was three different transactiones, two for £400 and another for over £800 which thnakfully didn't go through immediately and was able to warn my bank. It appears I was hacked via an email I opened which basically led to my passwords being breached. Was about 5 minutes after i turned my computer off so someone must have been watching. Paypal were very responsive and got all my money back within a week. I will admit I had neglected the security of my pc for a while but have completely restored it now and all is good so far. I was reccomended to install Malwarebytes anti-malware which appears to have cleaned up all the trojans etc that may have been the cause. I'm changing all my passwords on a weekly basis now just for peace of mind. Like yourself have put a block on any outgoing paypal payments for the time being. Alot of people moan about paypal for this very reason but their fraud prevention team are first class.

Usually how they get your password etc is send out emails that look exactly the same as a proper paypal mail but when you look at the actual senders address its not a proper Paypal address.Paypal should never really send you any kind of emails requesting you to sign in using your password etc or the other type of email they send is your account has been hacked or someones attempted to access your account and try to get you to sign in if I get any kinda emails of paypal I just log in and check my account straight away glad you never got stung..

I got similar emails saying log in you your PayPal to confirm purchase, well when I received such email I new it was a scam so ignored it...
PayPal operate the same sort of policy as the banks do in which they will not email you directly asking for such sensitive info, I don't even open emails that are aparently from banks/PayPal ect...JUST GET RID!!

all transactions through paypal are linked to an empty account that i only use for online purchasing. if i want to buy something i transfer the money from another account. can't get robbed then!

That is a good idea. I always knew about credit cards for online purchasing is 'safer' but I will definitely be using a credit card for all online purchases and then transferring the balance straight away.

Either a phishing email that you fell for, or possibly someone's running brute-force password attacks against PayPal accounts.
If you think you haven't fallen for a phishing email then it's probably the latter. Change your password to a randomly generated one from somewhere like http://strongpasswordgenerator.com/

Download and install this piece of software, then set it up to protect the sites you use that contain important passwords:

I haven't yet fallen for one of those easily noticeable emails. The email I got from paypal was identical compared to the ones they send you when you do actually authorise a transaction! I have changed my PWs and will do so now for every few weeks or so. Thanks for the links, I will be using that software!

Two of my Natwest accounts are current accounts, I use one for internet transactions and other for day to day banking, the one I use for internet only ever has small amount of money at one time, worst case scenario the Visa debit card and/or the PayPal account linked to it would not lose me much money if any.
Might be worth asking your bank to setup an additional account? ask for standard current (no overdraft and can only spend available balance type account) and use this as I do
edit: just to add if you need to have a bank account linked to PayPal also for ebay purposes then use the second account as above, NEVER have your main bank account linked to PayPal.

i hadmail from a spoof email saying that i needed to complete my paypal transaction to facebook! luckily it was picked up by the junk filter and i dont have a facebook account so knew it was dodgy. Hovering over the link, its showed something comletely different to paypal so deleted it.
