Title: Whirring sound and burning rubber smell
Post by: roar on 04 May 2012, 14:36
Any ideas on a whirring sounds on an 8v 91 GTI? Combined with a slight burning rubber smell when getting out after the drive.

Sounds almost list a supercharger!

Any ideas?

I suggest you run the engine with the bonnet open.  What do you see & smell then?

When I replaced my cambelt, I initially tensioned it up to much and it sounded like that!

Luckily it was sorted straight away so no problems. Check all belts if I were you mate.
