WOT this again?
Well I've just come back from the garage, and had a good chat with my mate there who owns the place and is an MOT tester. I asked how he was coping with the new MOT regs coming in and how great it is that all the HID numpties will be taken off the road...
Not so, he replies.
A January update by VOSA says that...
Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge
(HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted
with headlamp washers and a suspension or
headlamp self levelling system.
Where such systems are fitted, they must work;
however, it is accepted that it may not be possible
to readily determine the functioning of self levelling
systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt
Reason for Rejection
A headlamp levelling or cleaning device
inoperative or otherwise obviously defective.
So he said that if the car doesn't have washers/levellers fitted - they cannot be tested / failed, so aftermarket HID's in standard lenses are a PASS.

FFS :undecided:
What's the point in bringing in new regs if they can't enforce them.

:afro: To the DVLA, yet another example of how useless they are! I am not bothered by HID's as I am always blinded by idiots who leave main beam on till they are 3 feet away before they dip them and I have never been blinded by anyone with HID's, so don't really care if they are allowed or not, but got to hand it to the DVLA, only they could come up with something that stupid!
They couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery!

I had HIDs fitted on my old mk4 golf standard headlights and I never dazzled anyone as on most mk4 lights you can adjust the level from inside the car on the switch. If anything I get dazzled by idiots with there main beam on driving behind me or again newish cars with the headlight level adjusted to high but never had any real issues with HID kits or other drivers dazzling me with them.I have now since removed my HIDs as ive purchased new headlights and for what all the bulbs cost me I wish I would have just put my 6k HID back in as the level of light isnt no where near as good.

surely if its not fitted it is not working so auto fail on that??????????
-
I do see people's point on the HID in normal headlamps but i have HID in projectors in my mk4 they are set up properly although dont have washer jets or self levellers. :lipsrsealed:
I do have Xenons in my rocco which have self levellers & washer jets, only time i notice the self levellers is when i go round a corner & the light turn first.
i personally get dazzled by range rovers more than anything else

Chatted to an Mot tested in Kwik fit hour ago. Correct Beam pattern, Head light washers, and headlight leveling (doesnt have to be auto leveling)
yay don't have to take mine out for my mot =]

But technically then can't be tested, so cannot be deemed to not be working.
-
Don't most HID's not have a beam pattern?
-
Don't most HID's not have a beam pattern?
Dur no, HIDs destroy the beam pattern that should be present in non-projector headlights, which is why they cause dazzle when used my morons in older cars.

He said they dont have a beam pattern so why you giving it the dur  when he is saying the same thing as you.
Just to agree as well HID's only have a beam pattern in projectors
