My vw caddy 1.9 sdi 2003 kicks out a bit of black smoke when I put my foot down! I don't know much about diesels and I regularly see this happen on other vehicles.
It is not losing any oil and the coolant is spot on. The exhaust back box could do with being replaced though. The van starts perfectly first time!
Is this normal?
Thanks
Luke

Try some redex, that may help clear it out. Check for a boost leak on all of your IC pipe work as a small leak will cause smoke. However it is not uncommon for diesels to smoke under load...that is half the fun

Cheers mate, will give redex ago

Black smoke is a sign of overfueling, check the air filter is clean and then go for some fuel / injector cleaner.

Apparently the Forte stuff is the best, just reminded me to buy some.
