Title: welding prices
Post by: stainesy on 03 May 2012, 19:07
ok after close inspection looks like i may replace both outer sills on my mk3 golf.
if i supply the new sills how much should i expect to pay to have both of these replaced buy a welder?
also will i need to remove interior carpet for this job?

i would remove as a precaution personally, just roll back though not an all out job. welding wise depends on how bad the rot is but approx 80 - 100 locally is the going rate where i am +parts. full sill was around 40 quid iirc.

Why do you want to totally replace? They didn't look too bad in the pictures.

i thought i may as well just get 2 new sills as i want to put alot into this mk3 and make it spot on.
think i will go to a bodyshop 1st and see what they say about it. maybe just fabricate and weld up the holes.

Yeah probably best getting a body shops opinion first. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this one.

Given the problems with mk3 sills i think most people will be watching with interest.

looking at the pictures in your other thread they look ok and it just the ends that need sorting. i wouldnt go nuts and get the whole sills cut out.

I have just had mine welded up, both front inner and outer sills and floor pan, a hole in the drivers footwell and the rear floor both sides for £210.
