Title: milltek downpipe compatible?
Post by: mkviken on 03 May 2012, 18:43
I've already got a non-res 2.75" milltek cat back but I'm thinking about fitting a down pipe and sports cat

the only one I've seen for the mk6 GTI is a 3", which i guess is compatible with their 'race' system straight out the box.

my exhaust is the suitcase type. does anyone know if they provide a 3"-2.75" reducer with the dowmpipe or if they do one with a smaller link pipe after the cat to fit my exhaust?

cheers

Doesn't your exhaust already have a 'reducer' (increaser) to go from the standard Cat diameter of 60mm to the Milltek's 69.85mm?
They clearly supply adaptors where required...so...

I'm guessing their 3" DP is designed to fit the 76.2mm Race system with no adaptor, or the 70mm link pipe they supply with the cat back, without the use of a further supplied reducer.

I'd be amazed if they didn't supply the adaptor.

my exhaust came with a reducer to go from 2.75" to the standard 2.5" exhaust.

the mk5 had an option of 2.75 or 3" downpipes and they obviously just kept the 2.75" link pipe on the mk6 cat backs to save making more parts, though the only down pipe for the mk6 is 3".

what i need to find out is if the 3" down pipe has a different reducer included in the kit or is the only way to fit a down pipe to fit a 3" cat back or make a custom reducer.

their TBE systems are all advertised as 3" so not sure if they do sell or use them with the 2.75

Ring and ask them!
I bet they supply the adaptor.

Failing that, you will get any size to any size Stainless adaptor on eBay for arout £8

emailed them a few days ago but didn't get a reply.

i think they are phasing out the 2.75" system on the mk6 due to this issue. they all now seem to be 3" both cat back and TBE.

I thought they did it so it was an upgrade path from what I remember reading when it.first came out.

If you do go this route I'm guessing your going to get your map altered too as it seems stage 1 and stage 2 revo make different figures and graphs so I'm sure superchips will alter yours to suit.

Would be interested in seeing yours rolling tested before any more changes in both standard and stage 1 as I'm very.interested in seeing the graphs of your car then maybe stage 2 to see if much change with superchips version.

i thought the same - the system could be bought in sections and upgraded etc. it seems now that they only do 3" downpipes where they used to do 2.75 and 3"

there is an updated stage 2 super chips map out now so would be interested to try it. its £50 to upgrade the map.

PDT said you get really good gains with a down pipe on these as the standard one is so restrictive.

I regular reread the stage 2 threads on here and keep thinking.
Still extremely interested on what yours is doing now at stage 1.

Is one of the many stage 2 revo threads with rolling road results.

yeah i intend on running it on the dyno. PDT said expect 240-250 with super chips stage 1. they did say redo gave bigger numbers but i think thats what most people seem to say.

if you want we should take both cars down and see what they're putting out. would be a good comparison.

the main worry with stage 2 would be the clutch slipping as it doesn't feel very good at the best of times. oh and bigger brakes would be even more urgent!

Could do. Need to do some data logging with mine first to awe what's going wrong if anything. Think dv on way out.

Damiens had to replace the clutch in his stage 2 ed30 due to it slipping and there been round the 300ps mark.

they will be able to detect if any boost issues etc as they can measure all that sort of stuff

its the main reason i want to run mine jus to check it over and see if the map could be improved any.
