Title: werid boosting fault?
Post by: dan2252 on 01 May 2012, 22:47
hello my 1.8t agu has started holding back its werid how it does it.. ive got a boost gauge and were watching it earlyer i floored it taking it round in 2nd and then to 6 k in 3rd and i was reallly struggling in 3rd to make it rev, the boost goes up fairly slowly then upto 15 psi then backs off then climbs to 21 and does not budge, where as normaly it slowly climbs and drops back to around 17 and goes real well!  a 3 cylinder polo would be faster than my car when it goes into crazy mode! haha ive fitted a new n75 valve... it doesnt do it all the time either i then tried giving it some 10 or so min after and it went back to normal! werid!!

Take the PCV valve out and blow through it both ways.
If you can... it's knackered.

Also the pipes split on the bottom side, so you have to take them out to see properly.

It shouldn't really cause major problems on boost though, a slight hint of rough running and lost economy at lower speeds and slow to switch to overrun I've found.

usually and i say that sparingly its the pipe under neath the inlet manifold there is a small black rubber pipe and it splits mine was broken and i didnt know for months until it completly lost all power check them from inlet mani right through from oil filter housing and on the side of rocker cover if it is damaged you may be better off fitting a oil catch can

All those hoses perish, when you take it off in the cold light of day, you'll find little balls of rubber and that the wall thickness is lower.

They are fairly expensive from the dealers (that little right angle piece is £13), it's probably cheaper trying to source some silicone hoses.

May also be worth unplugging you MAF sensor and see if it runs better.

unpluged air flow and it goes like mega slow! which confused me it was only boosting to like 8 psi!  and are they a pain to change them pipes ? look pretty tight to get too.. inlet off?
Title: Re: werid boosting fault?

8psi is standard boost but I am guessing yours is remapped in which case you have a boost leak somewhere

yeah its got a map on it but it might aswell be a AA road map as the amount of lack is stupid! rtech map needed once ive saved up, il get some pics up tomorrow to be sure im looking at the right thing! pretty sure i have like :) i get like a werid noise too when under full load sounds abit like wheel spin? but not as loud coming from the engine would that be the boost leak?

thats what mine sounded like if you pop bonnet and listen it will sound like air escaping hence the damaged pipe

aup lads think ive found the issue.. before no faults in ecu. took for drive and its not got one somthing about mixture (add) somthing like that.. mate at work put it in computer and basicaly it says it means there could be a exhuast leak or a air leak, my exhuasts started blowing on the flexy just before the lambda strange how its just started running like rubish? spoke to my mate who owned the car before me and hes said the pcv valves been blanked off so can be that
Title: Re: werid boosting fault?
Post by: cullygti on 04 May 2012, 00:42
ive never heard of blanking off pcv valve tbh but what do i know
as it got a catch can fitted  :undecided:

me either mate had alook and it has, hes pretty clued up on cars so im gonna replace exhuast flexy and then see how it goes, looked deep behidn the inlet and theres like this blue pipe work running around onto pcv and stuff then a thicker pipe which runs down the engine and pops out under the car which is heat wrapped maybe for the old gases? i duno :) haha
