Seen one company say I could see a 20bhp increase but I cant see it myself.
Could a 1.6 SE 8v be re-mapped? and what sort of bhp/torque increase could I expect?
How much would this cost roughly?
Thanks

i had one i think you would struggle to get 5hp with an air filter and exhaust system including the map. which was why engine wise i did nothing to it and got a 1.8t for tunning.
-
Prob better off going for a pint instead
-
Not worth it tbh, any gains would be tiny against the costs involved.

A 20bhp gain is not going to happen sorry to say, a remap will give sharper crisper midrange and smooth out flat spots. You best to spend your money manking the car breath better, quality induction kit with cold air feed, full exhaust system, good spark plugs, v-power fuel and good engine oil.

On my old 1.6 16V BCB I had fitted a K&N Typhoon induction kit, a Milltek Cat-back system, and ran it on V-Power.
It made 125bhp on Star Performance's rollers

Really? That's pretty impressive

i would have thought air filter and exhaust without a map on a na car would confuse the ecu if anything and run down on a couple of hp.
imo the 1.6 se 8v is a horrible engine. they kept putting them in newer a3s and they're still as flat and unpowerfull. hated it so much made me get rid of my golf in the end to find a 1.8t.
remember driving a 16v in a golf and was much more driveable over rev range with just 5 more horses that was years ago before i drove anything powerfull and only had my 8v :D from that moment on i wanted something else haha.
-
I don't see why it would confuse the ECU, they are fairly good at adapting to conditions.

i was watching wheeler dealers and the mechanic edd had an imprezza. fitted panel filter and cat back to it had it re mapped. before map on dyno it was putting out far less than it should have stock.
i can't say it would on a vag but none the less found that interesting.

wasn't that the one that was supposed to be an STI but was actually just a WRX?
