Some lakes, a few trees, a lake, some wild life, a lake, some pretty scenery with a lake...

Alternatively you could pay me what you're paying for your accomodation etc and sit in my nice warm office overlooking the lake in the car park next to our building  Gwaaaan then, I'll do it for half the price

Personally I'd avoid Windermere. I think it's over-rated, too touristy and busy. There are plenty of other nice quiet lakes. Head to Coniston and regale your kids with tales of Donald Campbell

I went there for work, had to build an outdoor gym in a park.

I went with 2 other people, it was a 280 mile drive and all 3 of us went in an old transit, we got there for 09:00 Monday morning and came back Saturday night at 20:00, we worked 16 hours per day, we loaded the van Sunday afternoon with more stuff, Monday morning the other 2 went back but I didn't as by boss needed me to do another job, I finished at 19:00, went picked up a few bits that hadn't been loaded on the van, went home showered, got my bag of clothes, had dinner then went and filled up with petrol and left at 22:00, did the 280 miles non stop in three and a half hours, got in bed by 02:00 and up again for 06:00 worked till 20:00 then went to bed, next day got up at 07:00 and started work, at 11:00 I then suggested we take the rest of the day off and climb a hill, as we had worked or bollocks off the week before, doubled the amount of hours we normally did per week and only got £30 extra for it, it was not my best idea, we were all shattered but said we're here so might as well, we all showered and had a little rest and set off at about 15:00, first bit was fun, but by half way we felt like giving up, for some reason I had to carry the rucksack full of beer, even though I don't drink, which made it even harder, it absolutely killed us doing it, but we were glad to get to the top, but some of the views are amazing. I would highly recommend going up one.

Could always tell her to do what the lazy locals do, go up on quads and trail bikes.

You can go up one, then across the top of all of them in a circle, back to where you started without touching a road, I will be going back at some point to do this.

Grassmere is nice. Quiet but nice. And check the gingerbread out. Nearby is Wordsworth and all that and don't forget that Beatrix Potter is up there too...group on and tesco had vouchers recently.

I go up at least once a month, more if i can cos my brother and sister in law live in windermere, i agree it's a bit touristy but lets face it you will be a tourist! Bowness is great imo if you like to eat out, plenty of different types of food and i can highly recommend Bodega's tapas bar! Loads of beers from around the world and a nice spot to people watch, if you do go to Bowness i'd consider taking the ferry over to Ambleside, it's a great way to see the lake and there is some nice shops to see as well as pubs.
Grasmere and Rydal waters is a nice steady walk if you fancy it and in the week you'll see the RAF jets and helicopters which is awesome if your up on the hills as they fly real low across the lakes!

Grange over sands is a nice little town but theres not much there tbh unless you like sausage rolls! Higginsons ftw!

The motor museum near Newby bridge is worth a look, they tend to have some cars from the movies like the old Batmobile and dukes of hazard etc, and the Aquarium of the lakes is near that too.
Kendal is a nice shopping town as is Barrow, Ulverstone is on the way to Barrow and is alright but not great, Beatrix Potter is in Bowness.

Erm.... I'll keep thinkin.

Personally I think Grange-over-Sands is a bag of sh1te, but it looks like that's your nearest main town so you'll soon make your own opinion on that. For me the best bit about the lakes is the natural beauty and the walks and some good suggestions already with the Gingerbread & Wordsworth house at Grasmere and Beatrix Potter, but I think you're daughter may also enjoy a trip here http://www.wildanimalpark.co.uk/

I guarantee as soon as you get to the lakes there you will feel calm, relaxed and forget about the world, it really does have that much of an affect.

Don't go to Barrow, the Mrs is from there and it's just an old shipping town and it's not really considered the lake district.
