Quick question then,I know you should slip the clutch, keep the revs up ect but how many revs should you stay at and would it do damage to the clutch/gearbox...
-
Drive.... dont stop.... pray.... check brakes
Thom

I sold someone a MK2 that drove through a Fjord maybe they could advise? :lipsrsealed:
-
Pray is a good one haha
I'm talkin about a full on flooded road.
I drove through a huge one a few years back in my 206  was so deep it was going over the windscreen think it got to the middle of the door made it through though car was spitting water out the exhaust new gearbox a month later though
-
Get a mk3 and barge your way through...

Costa would hit a rock so would not chance it.

well Costa is Fjord blue!
i think there is a subtle difference here though between 'Fjord' and 'Ford'

(can you spot the mk3?)

remember Fords can be dangerous and you can still die crossing them...

About walking pace, create a bow wave in front of the car, and maintain it, until clear of water.... You must not stop in the water at all, If water enters the air intake, the engine is likely to hydraulically lock, read scrap!
Best of luck

is that the guilty puddle Guy?
-
dont do what my mate did and drive into one thinking it was a puddle to then find out that it was not, you couldnt see the wing mirrors because it was that deep. he got stuck. one of his mates had to come out swim through the water then try and put the hook onto his tow eye (head fully under water  )
new engine rebuild. and new interior as the interior was all water damaged
then a month later racing a st the st spun out and crashed into him at over 2x the national speed limit :lipsrsealed: both cars were a right off

That link Guy put up was down the road from me, Headley Fords deep at the best of times, i used to use it as a cut through when I had my truck, wouldn't dare try it in my van.
They can't have been local, satnavs seem to take people that way a lot, maybe they were following that. Crazy to even attempt it though, poor bloke, not a nice way to go

Don't take the chance unless you have the money to fix things afterwards....find another route!

I wouldnt attempt headly ford normally in any vehicle let alone a car after days of heavy rain ! We used to go up there as kids & saw enough people getting stuck or cracking their sumps.
Im not even sure why they have the road open be much safer just to close it!
-
dont do what i did either
drove through one, didnt realise how deep it was, sudden stop, car wont move
worst thing i did was try to start it, which broke a rod and bent two others
if it stops, push it out the way, dont start it till you get the water out the cylinders

Fully agree, that's where my mishap was :lipsrsealed: The bloke I had gone to see said it happens all the time and the recovery guy said I was his 3rd or 4th that week, so never mind the others that didn't get recovered by him... and yes it was satnav that took me that way, it really didn't look very deep. Fortunately the guy I went to see had bought a 4x4 to get through it daily... There were also a number of other cars that came down the steep road saw my car and buggered off so I probably saved someone else the hassle & pain of that f**king ford!
Sh!t happens, you live and learn and all that

I sunk the skoda in headley ford. Knew we were in trouble when the bow wave came over the car lol.
Sad the old man died, after this weather it will have been exceptionally deep and dangerous.
-
Get a snorkel fitted
-
Just finished tea and turns out the guy who drowned. His dog ended up in the vets my dads girlfriend runs.
She said it was very sad as the couples local vet came down from Oxford to collect it.

do a lot wadeing get quite a ot of flooded roads round here and often there isn't another way round.
1) decide how deep it is
2) work out where your air intake is , sometimes if intake really low you can pop the clips on the airbox to effectivly raise it.
3 ) drive in make a decent bow wave and keep up with it
i've had quite a few cars with there headlights under water, but its getting dodgey then you know that if you stop it's bye bye engine

I'd give Headley Ford a go in my Golf3.
Or my Passat.
I have a long and illustrious history of driving through fords and not getting killed, although I don't think I've ever driven through one with a dog in the car, which is maybe where the 52 year old got it wrong.

Mk3 is cheating as its part boat  Seriously though Headly should not be classed as a ford IMO
-
Golf3 in headley ford might be ok. The skoda felicia got to the stage of floating though and it wasn't too deep then.
-
as said... avoid it.
this is where vaseline and a snorkal comes in handy
This just sounds wrong
-
I have done a LOT of off-roading and I have no idea what he's doing with the Vaseline.
-
I think it's some sort of weird fetish he has :undecided:
-
Small holes, etc smother in vaseling, the water won't wash it off and it'l stay dry  all be it slightly lubed up, but it won't be wet
Still sounds wrong :undecided:
-
depends on the car,Id stop and check where the air intake is before i drowned it lol
