Really? I'd rather a foreign manager tbh, he's ok but honestly not a step in the right direction imo. :undecided:
-
As an Albion fan I'd be severely p!ssed off if this happened. Best manager we've had in years.
-
No way. Hazza will get the job, I hope so! Then once he has had his stint managing England it will be about time to retire!
-
As a liverpool fan... I thought england were pretty sh1t before. Prepare yourself for a whole new level of sh1ttynesss

Aslong as they stay away from BMD or Saint McDermott as he's known round these parts, I couldnt give a sh!t!
How about Pardew?
-
Roy Hodgson.....rather see Alex McGleish

Terry Connor over McLeish.
-
I was surprised to see this. After seeing Redknapp mess up they thought about it. Hodgeson though, not a bad choice as at least we know what to expect so less pressure being a fan!

As a Welshman I have not feelings on this matter, but a glance at Roy's Wikipedia entry, and stats shows that he is far more qualified than Harry. I know statistics ins't the be all when selecting the England manager, but it's a big bonus in his favour.
"Hodgson, who has managed sixteen different teams in eight countries, guided the Switzerland national team to the last 16 of the 1994 World Cup and qualification for Euro 1996; Switzerland had not qualified for a major tournament since the 1960s. From 2006 to 2007, he managed the Finland national team, guiding them to their highest ever FIFA ranking of 33rd place, and coming close to qualifying for a major tournament for the first time in the nation's history.
He has been the beaten finalist in the UEFA Cup and the Europa League. Hodgson has also coached many notable club sides, including Halmstads BK, Internazionale, Blackburn Rovers, Grasshoppers, FC Copenhagen, Udinese, Viking, Fulham and Liverpool. Hodgson has served several times as a member of UEFA's technical study group at the European Championships, and he was also a member of the FIFA technical study group at the 2006 World Cup.[1] Hodgson speaks five languages and has also worked as a television pundit in several of the countries in which he has coached.[2]"

Hodgson has been a Manager/coach at loads of clubs/nations but has won nowt and most have been small clubs/nations and when he has ventured to a big club he has flopped. Harry has won trophies with small clubs and turned around Spurs who are a large club. He has turned players careers around and done some great things. Having met Harry before he is such a gentleman and deservea a crack at the biggest job in English football.
-
Not a fan of Mr Hodgson tbh and not at all the right man for the job...another unsuccessful period on the cards then...good oh!

thats the fa for you... a little like hodgson, consistently sh1te.
As for Woys career so far, the reason he has managed so many clubs is
1 he has been around for ages
2 he keeps getting 'moved on'
3 he doesnt command big wages
4 he does exactly as the owners want
5 he plays down the teams chances so much that even a loss is celebrated
thats the kind of negative cnut this guy is. perfect for the england job..... they deserve each other.
...and finally when results go the way everyone expects them to maybe we can finally see that the fa are not up to the job!!
They need to go out there and get the best man for the job, be it rafa, jose, pep, ANYONE who actually has a record of winning stuff!
-
Roy Hodgson did not get a fair go at the liverpool job, and the time he was there the club was in civil war..
-
Nothing supprises me with the FA. 99% of people want Redknap so they go and appoint Hodgson.
Its bizzare to say the least...... Get ready for Steve McLaren Mk2 (aka wally with the brolly)
All the best though Roy, I hope you can make a success of the England job. To be fair his going a good job at WBA however I preffered what he was doing with Liverpool

Roy Hodgson did not get a fair go at the liverpool job, and the time he was there the club was in civil war..
He got more than a fair go... in the end it was his stupid tactics and the way he spoke to the press. Always revealing tactics before the match, and generally playing for a draw away from home, yet getting beat.
In 6 seasons as a premier league manager he recorded 13 away wins. You dont need to be a genius to know that 2 wins a season is not good enough for ANY team, let along one which was pushing for top 4 finish.
Thats 13 wins from a possible 82 fixtures! He is a mid table team manager at absolute best. He only works as a manager when the players and supporters of a club feel there isnt really any other option. WBrom should see this as a blessing in disguise.... you WOULD have gone down next season without a doubt!

He was only in charge of Liverpool for 6 months, how is that a fair go?
At the time Liverpool FC was being dragged through the courts.
I'm not saying he would of been a success, but no one could of achieved anything under those circumstances.

what liverpool being in the courts has to do with tactics I do not know
he doesnt command any presence or know how to manage big name players. surely a prerequisite of the england manager.
-
I reckon my dog could do a better job. Harry would be far more suited to the job and people respect him...Unlike perhaps a few 'big name' players may not respect Roy.

I think here it may be you that fails to understand... He has won NOTHING. Been SACKED from virtually every job he has had. Commands NO RESPECT. Won only 13 from a possible 82 aways wins. Now seeing as the next major 4 tournaments is not going to be in England.... does look too great does it.
As for liverpool being at war??? please tell me how this dictated on field tactics? He was still in charge when the new owners came in and results were no better then? In fact Kenny did better with Woys team than he did.
The man is a joke.... and his greatest flaws are about to be highlighted on an international stage. I look forward to his demise so everyone can see the sad negative pile of w4nk excuse for a manager he is.
-
Baring the weekend win, didn't Tottenham not win a match in the last 14 games, or thereabouts.
Or has that been conveniently forgotten?

I didn't say he was any good, i just said the job he was asked to do was impossible in such a short time and considering what was going on off field.
I give up, I agree with you.
I nominate R32UK to be next England manager
-
And I'll think you'll find that he has won more things than Harry.

Thanks. But with those fools incharge and our recent fall out they wont hire me :undecided:
On a positive note I now have a new signature quote
As for woy v arry.... neither of them should get the job :lipsrsealed:
-

Statistics mean nothing. Ok, they do. But IMO a manager is only as good as the squad he commands. A manager I feel can only do as much as choose the best available line up and choose the 'best' way to play the game. Managers all ways take the brunt of a team performing badly even if it an unlucky losing streak they are on on even if the players are just being tools and playing like I do on at a weekend.
What I'm trying to say it Roy has possibly been fortunate with the clubs he has managed at a time when the club has performed it's best, which they may have performed as well with a different manager.
Ya get me bruv?
-
thank god a English manager who knows the English game,,,well done Woy
-
Elvi is being the devils advocate I think, the Welsh folk I have spoken to today think its pretty funny that Woy has got the England job.
A field of sheep was pointed at with the insinuation that it held more talent within its dry stone walls...........
-
thank god a crap manager who knows the crap way England play the game,,,well done Woy
I have to totally agree with this
-
Its a gamble whichever manager is chosen for the job and there isn't one single man that can guarantee he will get the best out of that England squad. Capello with all his credentials couldn't do it, not could any of the others in recent history. At the end of the day its a real bad time to be changing the coaching staff so soon before the tournament and gives the new manager no time to stamp his authority on the side. Its more or less down to the players, its up to them to show their average wage is justified and that they are good enough to win against the competition. The problem the new manager will have is who to pick as the England set up is saturated with so many good young players and experienced internationals. Does he have time to source a winning team out of them...I doubt it!!
-
Capello couldnt do it???
You do know why Capello is not longer the england manager dont you?
-

Not really....something to do with that nugget John Terry being stripped of the captaincy and he not being best pleased about it. The FA employ these managers to win them tournaments do they not? And they didn't fair too well in the last one!!
-
The smart man might say.... :lipsrsealed:
Harry is still under contract at Spurs - reports of £14 million of buy him out/compo. Roy is out of contract at the end of the season. After spunking £24 million on Mr Mumbles and similar with The Shagger, the FA are not exactly flush at the mo (Stadium debt)
Now, your English team are not playing well, and by all accounts are not expected to do well in the Euro's. So it's Win win.
2 years later, Roy is gone, just when Harry's contract is up at Spurs, and he walks in as Saviour for free.
I believe the cricketing term is Night Watchman.
