yep it's the coil. new ones are around £40 -50. clean both ends of the earth strap and its mounting points when you put your new one on.

I know this may sound daft, but have you got power going into the coil?

If so its the coil, it may be a dodgy coil, even new parts can be broke lol

does anyone know how to test to see if the coil is faulty

You need a multimeter / 12volt circuit tester, if there is power coming in via the live feed and nothing coming out of the coil then the coil is dead.

Hope this helps
