Title: what engine should i put into my cl?

alright guys the 1.6 is slowly dying bless it and im looking at engine swap but weighing up my options on whether to go 16v or vr6 which would you reccomend

Not really worth it unless the 1.6 has a shell with no rust whatsoever and you have access to a complete donor vehicle.

There are so many differences between the basic models and the GTI its not really worth doing considering how cheap VR's and 16v are now.

its a 95 cl no rust anywhere shells only done 90k sills are perfect hence y i wanna keep it :)

you still need to buy a whole 16v or vr to do the swap. And if you're doing that might as well buy a good 'un to start with.

true but i like my car lol i might just get a rusted donor car get uprated brakes ect and swap the engine and everything over as its been a diamond car for few years now and i dont wanna lose it, sad i know but with the pearl 2 tone paint aswell makes it stand out :)

he wont take less than 1500 which is bit high not knowing standard of conversion and it dont look like a k04 unit :/

friend put a valver in his 1.4, swap rear beam, all brakes and running gear, fuel tank and front sub frame ect and wiring loom. main problem was converting from cable clutch to hydraulic.
goes like a dream though now. depends how much money you got for fuel (me owning a 1.4, i would love it quicker but can't afford the fuel), conversion wise similar things would have to be swapped i would imagine, so wouldn't make much difference between the VR and valver.

i like the vr's for the sound but i like the 16v's (having owned one before) so basically its whichever i can get donor car cheapest :)

just thinking realistic prices and a easy conversion for him :smiley:
