Only really thought about this now the price of fuel is soaring. I wodnered how much I'd spent on my car since owning it now for almost a year...
£3k initial cost
£800 PA insurance
£300 alloys & tyres - after selling the ones that were on there
£250 remap
£250 springs/shocks/engine mount
£200~ detailing products/machine
£100 bigger brakes
£60 boost gauge and other interior bits n pieces
£80~ servicing parts/aerial/oils/sprays/new nuts & gaskets/ancillary parts
£50~ EGR delete
£120~ tools to work on the damn thing
£200 new ARBs
£100 avg P/month diesel = £1200
Total = £6,610...This works out at nearly 1/3 of my salary?! I'm going to stop modding my car :lipsrsealed:
Dare some of you to do the same :lipsrsealed:
-

This is all for 1 year
My car £1400
Petrol £4900
Insurance with interest for paying monthly £980
service parts, oil, spark plugs, filters ect £150 ish
Tyre £25

Road tax £230
There willbe other things I can't remember, but this is close enough.
So that's £7,725 just to run a car for a year, no modifying, that is over half my yearly wage!
-
£5k on petrol + insurance + road tax.
This has come down significantly recently

I forgot all about road tax...that's another 140squid!
5k on petrol? Oh my god...I feel sorry for you
-
I spend that on diesel a year plus £1300 on the severn brigade tolls

I just threw up in my mouth.
-
I might moan about my cars, but they've cost a lot less than what most of the cars listed so far have  Not had any reason to moan about the Passat thus far and doubt I would, I just don't think of the £50 I use on my weekly commute of 150 miles

It is a scary amount really...only one thing I could think that people spend more money on, a house :lipsrsealed:
-
I'm about £5k a year on petrol... but I bought a GTI for one reason. To drive it! I know I could save money by getting a diesel or by cutting down my mileage (or by simply not using the power) but I absolutely love driving the car so I don't grudge what I spend on it. My car is my one big passion and it's also my daily transport so I'd rather be paying for something I love than paying less for something I don't.
-
I don't want to cry so Im nOt gonna ever start to add it up
-
I don't want to work it out but no one has included depreciation...some very cheap cars so won't apply for some...expensive bits of kit...we all have a choice so could buy a 1L car for little money but I know I'd be miserable driving it so I'll stick with my Cupra r..
-
Oh i don't know, quite like those little 1L Glanza's..

I didn't mean to cause upset and dismay my friend...Chin up. Atleast you are a cooler cat than 90% of other road users in a quicker than a quick thing mk4
But I am going to seriously curb my addiction to modding as of immediately.

At least you will be getting your monies worth!
-
Yeah although I'm significantly poorer swapping my 30 mile round trip commute to a 100 mile round trip :(
-
I actually keep two spreadsheets for both cars, and put in all monies spent on everything, from fuel to purchase price to service, tax, insurance etc... I also put in the miles every time i spend, and for the two cars i then can work out the MPG each time i fill up (can be useful for diagnosing probs too like when the brakes were binding, the mpg went down by 10mpg so i looked into it!) .
For the Golf i have spent 33p every mile i have covered, and since 2005 when i started i have averaged 32mpg, in 2009 average price per mile was 12p, now it is 19p.
For the Fox, i have spent £1.80 every mile, but that does include the cost of the csr too, and it is coming down very quickly. Average 43mpg
I can provide a copy of the excel if anyone wants to be as sad as me and keep track of everything?!
-
^ That sounds like a really sensible thing to do...I may consider this. Could still do with the the mileage off the V5 and then some rough guesstimates on the fuel costs...
-
I think if i owned a new car i might be interested in doing this over a year or 2 to see how it goes but my car is 16 years old now and i can't be bothered.
-
I bought a Mk3 Gti in September for £235......
My spending on it since has topped £2k and it ain't even seen the road yet
Don't dare ask me to make a list of purchases.....
I really should be in a straight jacket!!
-
i just stick in the go go juice and be done with it.
Drive the 1.3 ibiza like a little old lady
Drive the 8v Gti like i stole it
it all evens its self out
-
This year so far the Octavia in fuel, insurance and repairs etc has cost me £552.01, miles covered so far 995 this is up todate @ the end of April.
As for money spent since buying it, giving up keeping a record now.
-
995 is two weeks driving for me!
-
My first golf cost 3800 sold for 1300, got 1.8t for 2700 then insure 900 and that's were I'm going to stop
